April 4th is Auditory Processing Awareness Day. Unsure if you or a loved one have APD? Here are some typical signs that one may experience if they have APD:

Significant difficulty understanding speech, especially in the presence of background noise

Difficulty following multi-step directions that are presented verbally, without visual cues

Easily distracted by loud or spontaneous (sudden) sounds

Difficulty attending to long lectures or other long periods of listening

Difficulty remembering and/or effectively summarizing information presented verbally

Difficulty reading, spelling, and/or writing when compared to their peers (performs consistently below grade level)

It’s been a busy week of post-auditory therapy evaluations! It’s important to keep in mind that just because numbers aren’t within normal limits, that doesn’t mean there isn’t improvement. This teen had a HUGE shift in her numbers and made significant progress over 10 weeks. After a break we’ll jump into another round of therapy, but she’s already noticing more ease of listening and less auditory fatigue. Her processing speed also increased significantly!

Pre and post results of one of our patients after 14 weeks of auditory therapy. She’s gained significant confidence and reduced listening effort fatigue. Her tutor whom she works with weekly regarding her dyslexia also noted marked improvement in her sessions these last 14 weeks.
