Does IVF increase your future risk of breast cancer?
No🙅‍♀️

Dr. Fabiola Balmir tells us that studies over the last 20 years have shown that undergoing IVF does not increase your risk of breast cancer.

Should you be diagnosed with breast cancer, you can preserve your fertility with egg freezing prior to beginning chemotherapy which can deplete egg supply. The entire egg freezing process takes about two weeks, but it's important to consult with your oncologist before proceeding.

Our practice continues to grow!🌷 We are so excited to formally welcome Dr. Kelly Ryan as our newest Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgeon.

Dr. Ryan is no stranger to our office, as she has spent the last two years completing a rigorous fellowship at Advocate Lutheran General, training under Drs. Miller, Sasaki and McKenna.

Prior to that, she received her medical degree and completed her OB/GYN residency at Loyola University, where she won multiple awards for teaching and mentoring medical students and residents. 🩺

Dr. Ryan is passionate about connecting with her patients and building lasting relationships as she follows them throughout various stages of their lives.

💡Fun fact:💡 Dr. Ryan was an All-American swimmer at the University of Notre Dame. She and her husband are now trying to pass the swimming gene on to their two young daughters!

🗓Dr. Ryan’s schedule is now open and she is ready to help women with the treatment of endometriosis, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, pelvic pain and pelvic congestion.

🩺It's National Physician Assistant Week! We are so excited to celebrate our very own PA, Kathy Deli. We asked Kathy to share a bit about her role and what she loves most about caring for our patients. Here’s what she had to say👇

🩵Tell us about your role and responsibilities.
💬I am the Physician Assistant at the office and work with all the other doctors to see and manage patients. I do annual visits, new patient visits, post ops, and procedures. I also assist in surgeries.

🩵How long have you been at the practice?
💬I started at the practice in 02/2021! Fun fact – when I was 19 and a college student I was a volunteer at the practice and actually worked here as an MA after that for 1 year prior to continuing my education to become a PA.

🩵What is the best part of your job?
💬Honestly, meeting so many wonderful patients! I love getting to know them and hearing their stories! The best feeling is when I get to see how much a surgery or treatment helps them get back to living life the way they always wanted!

🩵What made you want to work in fertility/women’s health?
💬When I started as a volunteer, the impact Dr. Miller made on the patients who finally were able to start a family after months and often years of struggle was amazing. It stuck with me all those years after and had me come back! On the gynecology side, seeing the impact all the amazing physicians make is one of the best parts! When I see a post op patient who says “I finally feel like myself again” or “I did not know I could ever feel this good” is one of the best moments. Making sure a patient feels heard and seen is something we all strive for at the practice.

🩵How did you become a PA?
💬I got a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science at Benedictine Univ., then got a Master’s in Biomedical Science at Midwestern Univ. and then finally I went to Rush Univ. in Chicago for PA School! As a PA, I'm able to diagnose and treat all kinds of gynecologic diseases/disorders.

🩵What do you like to do for fun?
💬I love to travel! I was actually born in Europe – Albania – and speak the language fluently. I also loving reading – huge fan of Rebecca Yarros and Sarah J. Maas. My favorite TV show is the Vampire Diaries. I love attending concerts and shows!

👉 How IVF is approached differently for women with PCOS

Every PCOS journey is different and treatment should be too.

Dr. Jacobs has helped women manage their PCOS for more than 40 years and was formerly the Director of the PCOS Center of Excellence. He understands firsthand how medications, supplements and lifestyle modifications can profoundly impact the health and fertility of PCOS patients.

💡September is PCOS Awareness Month 💡

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common hormonal conditions affecting 1 out of 10 women of reproductive age. Yet it often goes undiagnosed because the signs and symptoms are subtle.

Common signs may include:
✅Irregular or missed periods
✅Infertility or trouble ovulating
✅Excess hair growth or acne
✅Weight gain or insulin resistance

Because there’s no single test for PCOS, it’s often missed or masked with birth control pills.

The good news is that with lifestyle changes, supplements and medications, many women see improvements in their health, cycles and fertility.

Read Dr. Jacobs’ latest blog to learn more about how PCOS is diagnosed and treated- link in bio.

Every 5 minutes a woman is diagnosed with one of the five gynecologic cancers: cervical, ovarian, uterine/endometrial, vaginal or vulvar.

💡The American Cancer Society estimates about 114,000 new cases are diagnosed and approximately 34,000 deaths occur from gynecologic cancers in the U.S. each year.

Endometrial/uterine cancer is the most common gynecologic cancer, but ovarian cancer causes more deaths than any other gynecologic cancer. Awareness and early action matter.

👉Key Takeaway: Being proactive with screenings and paying attention to changes in your body helps protect your health.

If you have questions about your risk, screenings or symptoms, our team is here to help.
