Traditional Sound Therapy

Traditional Sound Therapy Healing and relaxing music therapy for people or pets. Traditional Sound Therapy - What is it? All sound is designed to touch the body with it's waves unseen.

A trance-like state of deep relaxation can be experienced in as little as five minutes as the body's water resonates sympathetically with these healing sounds. Listening to singing bowls close up, feeling the sound waves course through your body or the steady rhythm of my drum and trying to work your to do list or contemplate a list of worries or a five-year plan are impossible. For all of time, people have sought the solace of nature's orchestra crickets, wind, the sound of moving water, in a stream or the ever-rolling ocean waves' majestic roar, a fierce storm or the gentle rain to restore and relax and re-energize themselves. A return to a state of quiet wonder and awareness is possible in as little as 10 to 15 minutes that can leave you feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and optimistic. When the mind is quiet, the body's natural healing mechanism, freed from the mind's machinations, can help give your health and vitality a well-deserved boost. Take a break from your mind...

Treat yourself to something wonderful!

OH BABY!
Truth? My music teacher is half my age.

This is the incredibly talented Alison Talcott, an extraordinary violinist and vocalist who, between customers, helped encourage me to write songs and take risks with my voice and my guitar.

Tomorrow I'm honored to have her join me to play for my dear friend, 90-year old Phil Timyan, an inspirational man whom I've had the privilege to play music-for-therapy for every Saturday afternoon.

Lately, I've been bringing Gizmo the Wonderdog, but tomorrow I plan on surprising Phil with not only Alison, but baby Ruby as well.

According to the latest statistics, over 5 million Americans are afflicted with Alzheimer's and 1 in 3 seniors will die from some form of dementia.

The Alzheimer's Foundation of America reports that:

"Music has power—especially for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. And it can spark compelling outcomes even in the very late stages of the disease.

When used appropriately, music can shift mood, manage stress-induced agitation, stimulate positive interactions, facilitate cognitive function, and coordinate motor movements.

This happens because rhythmic and other well-rehearsed responses require little to no cognitive or mental processing. They are influenced by the motor center of the brain that responds directly to auditory rhythmic cues. A person’s ability to engage in music, particularly rhythm playing and singing, remains intact late into the disease process because, again, these activities do not mandate cognitive functioning for success."

I'm grateful to Alison for giving my music a shot in the arm and I am looking forward to tomorrow.

I hope to be able to capture some of our musical RX session with Phil and share it with you all!

Thank you, Alison and Ruby...

Just what the sound doctor ordered :)

EXPLORING AND UNVEILING THE UNCONSCIOUS WORLD OF CHILDHOOD TRAUMA AS A COMPASSIONATE ADULT
Beliefs formed in early childhood are often based on limited data, but can impact a person’s circumstances throughout life. Beliefs formed in childhood while the child watches “Life TV” rarely take into account the whole picture and when a child feels a threat to their security, they create beliefs and myths to protect themselves from pain.

These beliefs formed in childhood will become behaviors and result in patterns: patterns in relationships, circumstances, and choices all designed to protect the “child within” who seeks first and foremost to feel safe.

This “child” can be the “bus driver” who decides where to drive the “life bus,” and determines at a sublimated level who to pick up, who to let off, and has a powerful, but silent voice in what “stops” will be made and how the Experiential Self will interact with the other “passengers.”

These patterns reveal clues as to the internalized belief systems all designed around the idea of safety and security, even if they are limiting and cause long-term pain and a lack of growth for the Experiential Self.

Patterns in a person's life are said to be a message from the unconscious mind, an externalization of a belief.

During sound therapy, the body is put to sleep using various traditional instrumentation, played improvisationally, but the mind remains alert, but inactive and in a mode of attentive "watching.” When the body is relaxed and “asleep,” the pineal gland secretes dimethyltriptamine (DMT) and the person is presented with pictures from the unconscious mind that offer clues to the deeply rooted belief and resultant patterns.

I never know what I will play and feel in a way that I receive cues in this trance-like condition from the person who is receiving the therapy, as if I am the orchestra, playing sheet music directed by the conductor, the person in this semi-sleep state, in some silent communication I respect, but don't fully understand.

Like the amalgamation or kaleidoscope of images in a dream, my intention is, as always, that the mind will present the person with images that will give insights and that in this relaxed mode, will allow them to gain understanding to the nature and meaning of the pattern and when they "awaken," they will begin to see, over the days and weeks that follow, changes that signal that with the light of awareness shined upon the pattern's root cause, a held belief, something will shift and the pattern will be broken and that they will have more peace and contentment, as well as see some change in the pattern.

I consider myself merely a facilitator of these personal journeys people take during sound therapy, whether it be to heal a condition of the body or the soul.

WHAT WE HAD FOR BREAKFAST
I guess people are still curious. Today's smoothie:

In a 2 quart blender, I added:
- 5 bananas
- 2 packed cups of organic kale greens
- 1/2 cup of blackberries
- 1 sliced orange
- 2 cups of water
- 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
****
Wait, Cayenne Pepper?
1. Anti-Irritant Properties - ease upset stomach, ulcers, sore throats, spasmodic and irritating coughs, and diarrhea.
2. Anti-Cold and Flu Agent - aids in breaking up and moving congested mucus.
3. Anti-Fungal Properties - can effectively prevent the formation of the fungal pathogens
4. Migraine Headache Prevention - stimulates a pain response in a different area of the body, thus reverting the brain’s attention to the new site.
5. Anti-Allergen - an anti- agent that may even help relieve allergies.
6. Digestive Aid - stimulates the digestive tract, increasing the flow of enzyme production and gastric juices.
7. Anti-Redness Properties - a great herb for many chronic and degenerative conditions.
8. Helps Produce Saliva - stimulates the production of saliva, an important key to excellent digestion and maintaining optimal oral health.
9. Useful for Blood Clots - reduce atherosclerosis, encourages fibrinolytic activity and prevents factors that lead to the formation of blood clots.
10. Detox Support - circulatory stimulant. It also increases the pulse of our lymphatic and digestive rhythms.
11. Joint-Pain Reliever - high in a substance called capsaicin, cayenne pepper acts to cause temporary pain on the skin, which sends chemical messengers from the skin into the joint, offering relief for joint pain.
12. Anti-Bacterial Properties - excellent preservative and has been used traditionally to prevent food contamination from bacteria.
13. Possible Anti-Cancer Agent - studies done at the Loma Linda University in California found that cayenne pepper may help prevent lung cancer in smokers [2]. This may be again related to cayenne’s high quantity of capsaicin, a substance that might help stop the formation of tobacco-induced lung tumors. Other studies have also shown a similar reaction in cayenne’s resistance to liver tumors.
14. Supports Weight Loss - scientists at the Laval University in Quebec found that participants who took cayenne pepper for breakfast were found to have less appetite, leading to less caloric intake throughout the day. Cayenne is also a great metabolic-booster, aiding the body in burning excess amounts of fats.
15. Promotes Heart-Health - helps to keep blood pressure levels normalized. It also balances the body of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.

The workshop will teach you simple home remedies that you can make yourself or for your family inexpensively that can help with weight loss, inflammation, stress, constipation, food cravings, as well as anxiety and depression for a happier healthier you.

The workshop will include recipes and is $25 per person.

As an added attraction, after, we will do a one-hour NEGATIVE EMOTIONAL ENERGY PATTERN DISSOLVING Sound Therapy Group Meditation. The Negative Emotional Energy Pattern Dissolving Session is something I've been using with individuals and small groups from which I've gotten remarkable feedback.

People say things like, "Life changing!" after and I am encouraged to share with more people. This unique Sound Therapy Group Meditation uses a base Solfeggio tone of 417Hz as a baseline "track" to a powerful sound journey that includes rattles, drumming, toning, tuning forks, and of course features some of my Master Healing Grade Tibetan Singing Bowls and includes some common herbs like sage, Holy Basil, peppermint, chamomile, all used in shamanic and indigenous cultures to support a trance-like, meditative state.

The Group Meditation is based on the principles of "sonic dissolving" used in medical science in such techniques such as using ultra sonic frequency pulses to dissolve kidney stones, 528 Hz pulses to repair DNA under a slide microscope and more. 417 Hz is the Solfeggio Tone Re in the Gregorian Chant Scale (do, re, mi, so, fa, la, ti, do) and it is used to dissolve crystallized energy patterns. The theory is that repetitive thought patterns are like a finger tapping on the surface of a water in tiny pond which, over time, eventually freezes in a more solid state, like a frozen pond. The irregular wave pattern of the dissonant thoughts, creates a crystallized energy pattern that finds a home in the body's tissue which can form into stiffness, tension, muscle restriction, pain, or other form of dis-ease. Using the various instruments accompanying the oscillating tone of 417 Hz and silence ("WOO - WOO - WOO") with the "WOOs" representing the 417 Hz tone and the dashes representing the punctuation of sacred silence.

People tell me the feel cleansed after and it is our intention that people, without trauma or self recrimination, are able to release negative emotional patterns, find forgiveness, heal, or whatever they intend.

Please feel free to ask me any questions!

SLEEP
-----------
Every mortal's Eternal question, at least during mortality.

I can only speak for what's working for me now.

An injury from a 1998 car accident left me with a tendency towards a chronic stiffness in my lower back and left hip that is a blessing in disguise:

If I want to live a pain-free life, there's certain practices for me. One of them is sleep. In my case, less is more.

However much I sleep, I will try to leave the word "tired" or "sleepy" out of the words I think or utter. An old karate instructor swore "self talk" was the secret to The Sleeping Beast inside all of us. He believed that when a person talked about it or made a point of complaining about it, the lack of sleep, that, he said, was the problem. Complaints like:

"I only got 3 hours of sleep last night!"

"The dog kept me up all night!"

etc.

All maybe true, but he said talking about it is what caused the suffering. He said it was possible to stay awake and not suffer, especially just for one day. If a person is happy, he said and you're enjoying yourself, you'll be fine. I told me to try not dwell on it, from a conditioned response, and to see how it worked for me.

Experiment, he said. "You're body is your laboratory."

Complaining, he said, was the Main Drain.

He proclaimed himself a BRIEF Sleep champion and gave me list of celebrated "Brief Sleepers" who had led productive, but otherwise normal, quirky, imperfect lives. Sleep, he said, is overrated.

I've read the 8-hour sleep night is a recent invention centered around agrarian lifestyles, which, an urban living choice has removed me from, for the most part.

I ain't workin' a farm or raising kids to work one around a school schedule.

smile emoticon

No matter how much I sleep, to keep pain at bay, I eat a plant-based diet, which includes some cooked and some raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains, etc.

Now, Instructor Tom might have been a champion "brief sleeper," but, at 24, he was still cruisin' on youth and hadn't yet experimented in the laboratory of his body with current diet and age and a more sedentary lifestyle to see how his pizza and burger and fries and soda foods worked in a 50-year old body that, in my case, had been hit by a van going 45 miles an hour while I sat unbuckled at a stop sign.

Each day, to curb inflammation and minimize pain, upon rising, I do some gentle stretching after I use the bathroom, then:

- Drink 1 quart of lukewarm water with two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar

- An hour later, I'll drink a warm shot glass of water and teaspoon of cayenne pepper (I hold it in my mouth and let saliva work up and then C A R E F U L L Y swallow. Yes, my eyes water a little, but I continue to breathe through my nose.

I will use the singing bowls to meditate for about an hour while I let the cayenne pepper work it's magic. Google "Cayenne Pepper Tea" and read for yourself. My first client each day, I say, must be me.

- Next up is a green smoothie: 4-8 bananas, 1 apple or piece of fruit, a handful of greens or 1/4 cup of herb like cilantro, parsley, basil, a teaspoon of cinnamon and yes, a pinch of cayenne.

Serene Serenna
-----------------------
Dreadlocks don't grow on trees, in me and Kathy's case, they were lovingly started back in 2009 by our friend and natural hair salon owner, Serena. Serena was a fan of Borrowed Earth Cafe and loves sound therapy. She's had several treatments at our home in Naperville and was excited to try the salt cave sound therapy at Soderworld.

Kathy rode with me and sat and knit her lace shawl up in the lounge area overlooking the entrance on a comfy couch.

When Serena arrived, we left Kathy to her knitting and headed down to the cave, the pink sand floor made beach-front smooth by a little broom and a heart traced in the floor. She loved the realistic salt stalactites and stalagmites, the salt encrusted rounded walls, and the hanging cradle chairs. She parked in the front chair, covered in a blanket, and in the dim light, she set an intention to feel Joy.

Afterwards, she took a walk around Soderworld's A-frame style facility, checking out the various treatment rooms, the yoga room which overlooks the walkout deck, and the garden walk and grounds out back.

She couldn't get over how beautiful everything was...

Thanks for sharing your Joy, Serena!

Say what? You're playing in a salt cave?
*************************************************
Starting this year, I am excited to say I have joined the team of healing professionals at Soderworld Wellness and Healing Arts Center in Willowbrook, Illinois.

Soderworld is a unique wellness and healing arts facility founded by the Soderholm family. About a month ago, I contacted a massage therapist at Soderworld who had helped Kathy with a thumb overuse injury while we were at Borrowed Earth Cafe. I called her and told her that I was doing sound therapy now and as a "thank you," I wanted to treat her to a session.

She had a very powerful healing experience and gave me the number of one of the owners of Soderworld, former Major League baseball star, Eric Soderholm.

A few weeks later, I got to speak to Eric on the phone and a few days later, he came out to our home for a treatment...and, to my delight, he offered me a place at Soderworld. They are constructing a sound room that will be my home away from home...

Thank you, Eric and family!

A Salt Cave?
In addition to massage, reflexology, yoga, and a host of other treatment options, Soderworld has a Himalayan salt-lined cave.

Kathy had an intuition that the salt cave would be a great place to do sound therapy as well.

To test that theory out, a two weeks ago, I did a "test run" with six people in the cave and the experience was incredible.

Sound-wise and atmosphere-wise, the cave is one of the most powerful places I've ever played. The cave's rounded, salt-encrusted walls, the man-made stalactites, the four-inch deep loose sand flooring, the blackened ceiling dotted with white LED's to simulate a kind of dreamy starlight, plus the hanging chairs make it one of the best caves in the 'burbs. Now, add in the power of singing bowls, drums, rattles, flute, and voice and you have the perfect setting to really let go and release.

Salt itself is a powerful healing agent. According to Soderworld's website, "Himalayan Salt is believed to emit negative ions to help reduce stress, asthma and allergies. Along with naturally assisting healthy sleep patterns, reducing muscle cramps, supports normal respiratory, normal circulation, ultimate anti-oxidant, detoxifying benefits, and promotes absorption of nutrients and minerals the body needs."

Our test group of six said the experience was mind-blowing.

The people in the hanging chairs said they felt the sound waves all around and at times felt the chair was moving in slow circles and that I was moving around the room, but I assured them I'd stayed put at the front of the cave with my instruments.

I played for Chad Soderholm individually in the cave and I did move around him with the various instruments, sometimes placing them within inches of his body as he sat suspended in the air.

After, I had to shake him awake and he opened his eyes wide, "Whoa..." was all he could manage at first. "Just, whoa..."

The Soderholms gave me permission to utilize the cave for individuals or small group settings of up to eight while the sound room was being constructed.

Is Sound Therapy for You?
Singing bowls and sound therapy and traditional sounds using Earth-tuned frequencies are part of that. Like kidney stones that can be dissolved with specific frequencies and DNA repairs that are done using 528Hz trained on the gene. Both alternative and Western-medical practitioners are harnessing the power of sound in trying to create a positive impact on health.

Methyl gases react to sound and vibration and intention and during sound therapy, those gases are temporarily and sometimes permanently altered and some of the "soft coded," "gas-based" traits or behaviors, with intention, may experience a change for the positive. The "positive" or harmonic vibration signature in hertz and intention can direct a frequency into the body's waters and, like sonic therapy and frequency trained on kidneys can alleviate and dissolve kidney stones, certain frequencies and intention "trained" non-specifically on the body can shift or alter perceptions, provide clarity and insight and effectively illuminate or shine a light on behavior and it's core cause without trauma to the experiencer.

A shamanic sound journey who's intention is to change your vibration and, coupled with your intention, maybe part of the keys to freedom you've been searching for that lie hidden inside you.

Do something wonderful for yourself: Please call or text to book a session with me at the salt cave!

Happy New Year!
