The Illinois Poison Center (IPC) joins poison centers around the country to raise awareness about poison dangers and educate the public during National Poison Prevention Week, held March 15–21.

This year’s theme is “When the Unexpected Happens, We’re Here for You.” For more than 70 years, poison centers have provided vital information and resources to families to help reduce the threat of poisoning and save lives.

Nearly 500 patients, healthcare providers, community leaders and lawmakers from across Illinois gathered for a second 340B ACTION Day on March 1 at Chicago State University. This event followed the first 340B ACTION Day held February 1 in North Lawndale.

Both events celebrated the lifesaving impact of the federal 340B Drug Pricing Program, with advocates urging lawmakers to protect and strengthen this vital patient lifeline by passing 340B protection legislation (HB 2371), which is currently poised for action in the Illinois House. Hospital and community leaders stressed the critical role of the 340B program, which enables community health centers and hospitals to provide affordable medications and essential services to vulnerable patients within their communities.
