What a week!!! We celebrated our third year in our new simulation center celebrating Healthcare Simulation Week! We celebrated all of our educators and leaders who utilize simulation to enhance patient safety and improve outcomes for our staff at NCH and our community. We recognized 4 special people with healthcare simulation awards:

1) United in Similation, Simulation Educator of the year to Dr Christopher Kumetz

2) Simulation Mentor of The Year to Meredith Burt, RN

3) Standardized Patient Actor of the Year to James Duggan, The Naples Player

4) Rising Star Simulationist Awarded to Jessica Grimes, RN

The simulation center and key educators completed high yield training in collaboration with the Rooney Heart Institute. The training involved an insitu mock code where a patient went into cardiac arrest in the front lobby. The Rooney Heart Institute team worked collaboratively resuscitating the patient with excellent communication,
teamwork and CPR skills. Way to go Team!

Team Health Emergency Room Physicians had an action packed operations meeting coupled with high frequency, low occurrence simulations at the Judith and Marvin Herb Family Simulation Center. Subject Matter Experts Paul Farmer, RN, Heather Stephenson, RN and Dr Christopher Kumetz, MD focused the training on obstetric emergencies, precipitous births, and even included some critical care procedures like cannulating an umbilical cord , Intraosseous catheterization, and a inserting a Blakemore tube!

Meet Sophie, our new high-fidelity African-American geriatric mannikin from Laerdal, and a remarkable addition to our simulation program! A meaningful step forward in representing cultural and patient diversity in healthcare training.

Soohie is equipped with advanced features that allow our team to train for a variety of patient scenarios, from cardiac and stroke care to high-level nursing skills. Currently, she’s playing a vital role in preparing cardiac surgery patients and their families for what to expect during their hospital stay, helping us improve comfort, safety, and understanding before surgery even begins.

Pictured here with Dr.D’Orazio and Liz, PA, Sophie is already making a big impact on patient education and clinical training alike. Also pictured is Donna Mcginnis, CEO of Botanical Gardens who toured wirh our educators❤️we’re excited to see how she will continue to elevate our simulation-based learning and patient care at Naples Comprehensive Health! 🚨✈️ CPR, choking, falls, allergic reactions… and even an in-flight medical emergency? Just another day in leadership training at The Judith and Marvin Herb Family Simulation Center at NCH.

Our chief hospital executives traded in their leadership hats today for simulation center scrubs during a high-energy, hands-on First Aid for Non-Clinicians course. Because safety is everyone’s responsibility!
From hands only CPR with expert instructor Sarah Barlow, to traumatic fall response, survey and stabilization until arrival of medical team/EMS.by Subject matter expert EMS liaison Noemi Garcia, and a dramatic choking demonstration with Dr. Harrington that included the Heimlich maneuver and proper use of the LifeVac (yes, the LifeVac worked wonders!) No emergency was left unaddressed.
An immersive scenario took our execs to cruising altitude in a simulated airplane scenario where they had to respond to a pediatric allergic reaction, to administrating an epi-pen safely and correctly

We wrapped up with a powerful Stop the Bleed session led by Dr. Scott Dunavant (Team Health) and Lt. Matt Donovan (Greater Naples Fire LT) because leadership means being ready to act, anytime, anywhere.
💪 Safe to say… if you need first aid, your hospital leadership team has your back (and your airway).

Ave Maria University nursing students had a valuable learning experience in our simulation center involving pediatric crisis’ and high level pediatric skills! We included an immersive interactive experience involving a child on a plane having an allergic reaction, a pediatric cardiac arrest, a respiratory emergency, insertion of an IO catheter and many more skills. A big thank you to our generous donors for supporting the training we provide to our staff and also the community. Thank you to our nurse educators and respiratory educator for providing your knowledge and expertise 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
