I’m so grateful for our little family and for the other families that have chosen to support them this year.

We have learned a lot about what truly matters this year.

🍂𝔹𝔼𝔽𝕆ℝ𝔼 & 𝔸𝔽𝕋𝔼ℝ🌿

The ℝ𝕖𝕤𝕦𝕣𝕣𝕖𝕔𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟 𝔽𝕖𝕣𝕟 can lose about ⑦⑤% of its water, shrivel up into tired clumps and then COMPLETELY “𝕔𝕠𝕞𝕖 𝕓𝕒𝕔𝕜 𝕥𝕠 𝕝𝕚𝕗𝕖” when it is exposed to water again.

Could parents identify more with a plant?

Parents are often ʀᴜɴɴɪɴɢ ᴏɴ ᴇᴍᴘᴛʏ, too.

Seeing memories on Facebook pop up today about the upcoming birth of my 𝟙𝕤𝕥 baby, who is about to turn 𝟟!

𝕎𝕆𝕎.

They say time flies, but you 𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕝𝕝𝕪 can feel kind of complacent hearing that over and over when you have a newborn or toddler.

𝕋𝕙𝕖𝕟, as they grow you realize it’s true.

I think this holds firm for a lot of those tried and true pregnancy and baby advices that we hear.

Now, I catch myself listening in on parent’s conversations at the grocery store. Stories about their kids going off to college or starting high school and truly wonder, how fast does is really go?

These simple little suckers can be the true MVPs if you are pumping or nursing through ʜᴜʀʀɪᴄᴀɴᴇ sᴇᴀsᴏɴ.

When you live on the Gulf Coast of Florida, like I do, you probably take your ʜᴜʀʀɪᴄᴀɴᴇ ᴘʀᴇᴘ pretty seriously.

So, what is the plan for 𝕗𝕖𝕖𝕕𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣 𝕓𝕒𝕓𝕪 if you lose power?

Should you consider adding a 𝕞𝕒𝕟𝕦𝕒𝕝 𝕡𝕦𝕞𝕡 to your supply list or baby registry?

This type of pump requires zero 🚫 electricity 🔌 and has only a few parts that can be cleaned with a small amount of soap and water. You can pump directly into a storage bag or compatible bottle.

They run between $25-$30 and can be used to relieve engorgement, pump a full feed, ʜᴀᴠᴇ ᴏɴ ʜᴀɴᴅ in the case of power loss (when you cannot use your 𝕞𝕒𝕚𝕟 𝕡𝕦𝕞𝕡) or for pumping on the go.

Fresh flowers are SO nice to come home to after having a baby. They are wonderful to look at, make your house smell great and are just a sweet reminder that someone thought of you.

You know what is even better than fresh flowers, though? 𝔽𝕖𝕖𝕝𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕗𝕣𝕖𝕤𝕙. Literally, just not stinking. Oh, and getting some of that good stuff they call 𝕤𝕝𝕖𝕖𝕡.💤 After having a baby, the birthing person is often forgotten as attention turns to the new baby.

ᴀᴅʀᴇɴᴀʟɪɴᴇ ɪɴ ʟᴀʙᴏʀ

An adrenaline rush sounds like a good thing, but not so much during labor. Yikes. The rush of this crazy hormone, brought on by fear or stress, can actually 𝒮𝐿𝒪𝒲 or stall labor and cause a spike in heart rates. The effect can take up to an hour to come down from.

Let’s keep that under control.

My mom bought me this sweatshirt when I was pregnant with my daughter. It was one of the few things I had to wear from my tiny suitcase that I had hurriedly packed for the 34 days that we lived together, unexpectedly, at after she was born. I remember being there, wearing it and wondering if I would get a chance to raise three kind humans or just the two that I already had at home. I was scared, but I was supported. I was confident in our care team and they listened when I questioned them. If you are reading this and have a child in the NICU or PICU, I hope you feel supported. Do you feel heard? Does your care team listen? Are you comfortable? Is your baby getting the care that you think they deserve? If not, 𝕊ℙ𝔼𝔸𝕂 𝕌ℙ ℕ𝕆𝕎! You are important. 𝔹𝕖 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣 𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕝𝕕’𝕤 𝕧𝕠𝕚𝕔𝕖. You are their advocate and your opinion matters.
