The words of the Tim McGraw song ring so true: "Someday I hope you get the chance to live like you are dyin'", because that perspective changes everything.

And one of the greatest gifts we can give those we love is to take care of, in advance, the decisions and details that will have to be dealt with when we say goodbye for the last time.

Pre-planning is a gentle and loving way to say, "You matter to me. I took care of this so you wouldn't have to", and we would be honored to start that planning conversation in partnership with you.

John Travolta, whose wife passed away in 2020, and whose 16-year-old son died in 2009, gave this gentle advice about grief and grieving: "I learned that grieving for someone, experiencing mourning, is a personal thing. Grief is individual, and experiencing your own journey is what can lead you to healing. This is different from someone else's journey. The most important thing you can do to help someone else when they're grieving is to allow them to experience it and not complicate it with your own."

Grief often comes dressed in memory.

It shows up in things like a familiar scent. In a song you weren’t ready for, playing through store speakers. In the way your hand still half-reaches for the phone before you remember no one will answer. And suddenly you are deeply reminded of your loss.

But memory is not a trap. It is a tether to love. Some memories won’t feel safe at first. They need time. You can set them aside and return when your heart is ready.

There will be days when you fear forgetting. A voice. A phrase. The crease of their eyes when they smiled. You may search for photos or voicemails, desperate to hold on to what feels like it is fading.

But memory is not only in objects.

It’s in you. In gestures. In the way you slip their name into conversation. In the values they gave you. In the love they planted, still growing even now.

And here is the truth: you are allowed to remember. In detail. In fragments. Through tears. Through joy.

Let memory come. Let it bloom. Let it sting. Let it speak.

You are not going backward when you remember.
You are honoring what mattered.
You are keeping love alive.

Losing a loved one is one of the most challenging experiences of one’s life. After a loved one passes, families can experience devastation, confusion, guilt, and regret. The road to healing can be challenging to navigate if essential needs and feelings are not appropriately addressed.

The mourning process can take an extensive amount of time to work through. Staying in touch and gathering with others should not end immediately after the death occurs. Try to continue to gather together throughout the entire grieving process.
