The parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) plays a vital role in regulating the body's autonomic functions, including relaxation, digestion, and rest, as opposed to the sympathetic nervous system, which activates the body's fight-or-flight response. Primary functions of the PNS include: Decreasing respiration and heart rate, Facilitating digestive processes, and Counteracting the sympathetic division's effects after a stressful situation
The question that I'm always asked is how one achieves parasympathetic or downregulation. Of the system?
Here are a few suggestions that can help:
**Deep breathing: Breathing from your diaphragm
**Nature: Spending time in a serene natural setting can help
**Exercise: Mild exercise can help
**Visualization: Picture yourself in a peaceful place
**Be mindful: Try not to multitask and be aware of what you're doing
**Do something you enjoy; hope these tools help you down-regulate to a parasympathetic state!
