Filling Homes

Filling Homes We are an expression of the Church and recognized as a social ministry.
(1)

Filling Homes is a faith-based social ministry providing residential, day, and community services that empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live with dignity, independence, and inclusion across Northwest Ohio. Filling Homes' identity is centered on the basis that Jesus Christ has exhorted us to love and care for others - especially those who are incapable of caring fo

r themselves. We are a corporation whose goal is not to return a profit for shareholders but to increase our value to those we serve - consistently reinvesting surplus income to improve service quality. We must be effective advocates to insure those we serve are able to live full healthy lives in a comfortable, homelike environment in the most independent means possible. We recognize that individuals with developmental disabilities have the right to make choices and decisions, which affect their lives as well as the right to participate as full members of the community. As a result, we seek to encourage, value and support implementing these choices by providing residential and support services designed to promote community awareness and acceptance of all its members.

In a full-circle moment, Kathy Kolodziejczyk, our new Payroll/Accounting Specialist, is returning to Filling Homes, where she previously worked as a DSP during her teenage years.

In her role, Kathy works behind the scenes supporting staff through payroll and accounting services, helping ensure employees are paid accurately and on time so they can focus on enriching the lives of the individuals we serve.

Kathy is a proud Northwest Ohio native, a graduate of Napoleon High School, and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences from The University of Toledo. She now lives outside of Liberty Center with her husband (her high school sweetheart), their three children, two dogs, and plenty of farm animals that keep life interesting.

Outside of work, Kathy enjoys reading, watching movies, camping with her family, and spending summer days on the Maumee River boating and jet skiing.

We are so happy to welcome Kathy back to Filling Homes! She has already been a wonderful addition to our Fiscal team.

Today, we welcomed back more than 25 friends at our annual Retiree Luncheon. We shared a meal and lots of stories between staff, past and present. Clients, too, were pleasantly surprised to see familiar faces from over the years!

Thank you for the continued love you each bring with you every time you return to Filling Homes.

Six artists from Soaring Arts, a program of Filling Homes, recently participated in Opening Minds Through Art (OMA), an award winning, evidence based program developed at Miami University that uses art to connect and uplift individuals living with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Soaring Arts artists Jen, Derrick, and Tara completed specialized training and then spent five weeks working one-on-one with fellow artists Jenny, Bob, and Terri Jo to create meaningful, expressive pieces of art.

With a focus on the creative process rather than the final product, OMA encourages individuals to express themselves freely and without pressure.

On Friday, we had the honor of showcasing their work during a gallery style exhibit in the Main Campus atrium.

We are so proud of these amazing artists and thank Facilitator Molly Biddle for bringing this program to Filling Homes!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, Purses for a Purpose 2026 raised more than $50,000, which will be matched dollar for dollar through a first-ever matching gift from the Hanson family, creating a total impact of more than $100,000 in support of Filling Homes.

Held at the Filling Homes Community Center on Thursday, April 23, 2026, this sold-out event welcomed nearly 275 guests for a night of connection, friendly competition, and shared purpose. Guests enjoyed a lively evening of bingo for designer purses, along with raffles and games, all in support of the individuals we serve.

We are deeply grateful for the support that made the evening such a success, including three Diamond sponsors, thirty one corporate sponsors, sixteen in-kind sponsors, and twenty volunteers made up of current Filling Homes staff, Filling Homes retirees, and generous community members.

Together, our community helped create a lasting impact that will directly support Filling Homes programs and services. As the year unfolds, we look forward to sharing the many ways this generosity enhances the lives of those we serve.

Save the date for Purse Bingo 2027 on Thursday, April 22!

This week, Filling Homes was proud to attend the Henry County Senior In-Demand Jobs Event with Henry County CIC at Napoleon High School. It was a great opportunity to connect with local seniors and share more about the meaningful careers available within our field.

Jenny and Allicyn enjoyed meeting students, talking about the impact of our work, and highlighting how a career at Filling Homes can make a difference in the lives of others.

We’re always looking for caring, compassionate individuals to join our team. It’s , and volunteers really are an essential part of Filling Homes' mission!

Their time, heart, and dedication create meaningful moments every day, bringing joy to those we serve, and we are so thankful for each of you:

- Roger Sell, a dedicated volunteer since 2016, who supports our Main Campus ADS program through gardening, reading, and meaningful connection with residents.

- Mary Sehlmeyer, faithfully serving in Laundry each week since 2023, continuing her long-standing connection with Filling Homes.

- Chris Keck, a Filling Homes retiree and ADS Program Aide/Friendly Visitor since 2023, who previously served 14 years at the Cardinal and Egly Homes in Williams County.

- Jeffrey Groff, an ADS Program Aide at Soaring Arts Studio who also volunteers around his schedule, bringing creativity and energy to the individuals he supports since November 2023.

- Laura Lause, one of our longest-serving volunteers since 2014, who provides steady and reliable support in Laundry through folding and sorting.

- Brenda McClory, an office volunteer since August 2024, who supports HIM and HR by scanning, sorting, and filing important documents, helping keep both departments organized and on track.

If you’re interested in volunteering at Filling Homes, please contact Sarah Jackson, Volunteer Coordinator, at sjackson@fillinghomes.org. We'd love to have you join the team.

WOW, last night was the biggest Purses for a Purpose to date... and it started before the guests arrived thanks to the amazing organizations and individuals who gave their time, energy and sponsorship to Filling Homes.

We have so many photos and updates to share, but to get started, we couldn't have done it without our Diamond Sponsors Rudolph Libbe Group, Civista Bank and VFW Post 8218 Napoleon Ohio and more than 40 sponsors who chose to support our mission this year. THANK YOU!
