National Senior Health and Fitness Day is today! We are highlighting our wonderful weekday exercise class at Heritage House.

Residents work on balance with chair stands, build strength using exercise bands and weights, and participate in a variety of chair-based exercises that help strengthen core muscles. At the end of class, we work on coordination by bouncing a ball together. All exercises are adaptable, so if you or a loved one have difficulty standing or are dealing with a shoulder or knee issue, you can still participate and stay active.

This group has grown so much over the years, going from barely five participants to sometimes having more than 20 residents joining in!

Bill Reed moved into his one bedroom apartment with his wife, Phyllis, in November on 2021. Let's hear what Bill has to say about Heritage House.

"My favorite thing about living here is the activities. Leslie knows how to get you going and moving, but also having a great time as well. I know that whatever she plans we are going to have fun from exercise, coffee chat, or co****le. I know I could not imagine living anywhere else."

Today we said goodbye and good luck to our NorthWood High School students Bryce Clark and Brooklyn Scherer. These two have spent the past school year coming in twice a week to help prepare the dining room for the residents lunch. We are going to miss them and wish them a very happy summer break.

This week was National No Dirty Dishes Day! Residents not only today, but everyday, spend their days not having to worry about any dishes for their meals in our restaurant-style dining room. After you enjoy your delicious meal, one of our friendly waitresses will come and take those plates before dessert is offered. Who doesn’t love not having to wash pots, cups, and silverware?

If you are ready to not have to wash dishes, head on over to Heritage House and talk to Community Relations Director, Kimberly, to find out the next steps of being dish free.

A special treat rode through Nappanee this past Saturday. Local farm tractors, who were honoring our Fallen Heroes, rode from Wakarusa to Nappanee to show off some of their antique tractors. We appreciate them driving thru the cloudy weather for a great local cause.

Happy Birthday, Harold “Sonny” Wolfe! 🥳🎉 Sonny was born in Layfette, but raised in Benton County with his six siblings. Most of his younger years were spent on his family farm working while also attending school. While in high school he ended up being a three sport athlete in basketball, baseball, and track and field. He graduated high school and attended Taylor University on a scholarship, but changed course and went into the Air Force where he spent the next 20 years.

He met is wife while in the Air Force (an interesting fact he says is that she was his boss). During this time, they had three children together, two boys and one girl. He left the military and became a consultant over in Saudi Arabia where be taught desert survival and he was able to meet Prince Ba**er who was a part of the royal family. After several years he moved the family to Monmouth, Illinois and spent the next 10 years consulting the local school systems. His wife moved them to Indianapolis where she started to work for a new job while Sonny worked at the Department of Corrections helping the inmates have the correct training for jobs. His retirement brought him learning how to cook. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting especially up in Alaska and Canada.

Sonny is known here at Heritage House for his bright smile, his love for the Cubs, and his humor! Happy Birthday!
