We just finished up 3 days of learning (plus one day of fun) in Orlando.
At this point, I’ve lost count of the amount of conferences I’ve gone to. I’m always learning and I hope I always continue to do so.
Initially, when I went to conferences, I came away with so much information. There was a long list of to-dos (that I of course immediately got to work on upon getting back).
Now, it’s different. Most of the content isn’t new; and it isn’t always about the content.
Sometimes it’s a conversation about how someone does something different that gives me a new idea or helps me see something differently. Other times, it’s refinement of an idea that is already in place.
The learning is more subtle and nuanced now. It’s less about “oh my goodness there’s so much to do” and more about “what are the 1-2 things that if I change, will make the biggest impact.”
It’s interesting, because this level of learning is more challenging. (Which, I, of course, enjoy). It’s easier to tap out and think “oh I have heard that before, why bother listen?”
But I’ve found the more I choose to not listen to that voice, the more I still learn - oftentimes from unexpected places. And that’s exactly what happened last weekend.
