In honor of National Apprenticeship Week, we’re highlighting Tabitha Reichl and her journey from apprentice to nurse at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center.

Tabitha didn’t originally plan on a career in healthcare, but encouragement from her sister, an ICU nurse at SNHMC, led her to take a chance.

She began in the Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program, where she discovered a passion for patient care. “Being able to build relationships with my patients has been truly special,” Tabitha said. “Every nurse, nurse practitioner, MA, and doctor in my office takes the time to educate and discuss solutions together, making it a great learning experience.”

With the support of her team and a flexible schedule that allowed her to pursue school, Tabitha advanced to nursing. “My background as an MA definitely helped me out in nursing school. Going in with the fundamentals allowed me to jump right in as a nurse.”

This summer, Tabitha will begin Southern New Hampshire Health’s Nurse Residency Program, working on a Med/Surg floor and continuing to grow her career. “Southern NH Health has a lot of opportunities for growth and change,” she said. “There are so many ways to keep learning and moving forward.”

Her story is a meaningful example of how apprenticeship pathways can open doors and support long-term career growth.

National Apprenticeship Week is a chance to recognize the pathways that open doors to meaningful careers and strengthen our workforce from within.

At Southern New Hampshire Health, earn-while-you-learn apprenticeship programs in LNA, Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy, Behavioral Health, and Surgical Technology are helping individuals build skills while making a real impact on patient care.

Two of those journeys:
⭐Danieleese Rosas, now pursuing a career as a Behavioral Health Worker, shares:
“Learning in real time vs. learning through class plays a big role in how you will perceive this work. I would highly suggest this program to others who are interested in this field. There is nothing that compares to receiving on-site experience.”

⭐Catarina Bono, now a certified phlebotomist, reflects:
“The phlebotomy program benefited me by allowing me to take a bigger step in my career towards healthcare. It also allowed me to give back to those who have helped me in my healthcare and diagnosis.”

From hands-on experience to career growth, apprenticeships are creating opportunities that last far beyond the program itself.

🙂Meet Bill Tarsa, a central utility operator in the engineering department at Southern New Hampshire Health.

“I have worked here for 3.5 years. My duties include maintaining and repairing all heating boilers and associated equipment at all our locations. I also maintain and repair the chilled water equipment, as well as helping the HVAC crew with any mechanical repairs.”

Bill’s work supports both patients and fellow employees by helping maintain a comfortable, controlled environment throughout our spaces.

“I found Southern NH Health while looking for a change in a career opportunity in my field, and well, the rest is history. What keeps me here is simple. I enjoy what I do. Whether it’s routine work or a difficult challenge, it keeps me very interested. And my fellow employees throughout this establishment couldn’t be any kinder.”

Outside of work, Bill enjoys hitting the road. “For fun, I love to take motorcycle trips. Whether it’s long trips to the mountains or just around town, it takes me away to the ultimate getaway.”
“I’ve held many positions throughout my career and, as I’ve said to fellow employees, by far this job has been my greatest, hands down.”

Thank you, Bill, for all you do!

⭐Congratulations to the Foundation Gastroenterology team on being awarded the March Walk With Me – Compassion in Action Award, generously funded by the Richard Stahl Trust.

One patient recently described the impact this team had on them:

🥰"The Foundation Gastroenterology team has been wonderful at providing me with excellent care. We are still working to navigate through medications, looking to find one that works for me, and with this comes frustrations related to high out-of-pocket costs. The team worked to find me a reasonable solution and provided information so that I could research an affordable outcome for the particular medication that I am being prescribed.

I would like to also call out RN Rebecca, as I feel that she has gone above and beyond to help me and to respond to all my messages."

The Foundation Gastroenterology team's ability to provide a caring, safe, and compassionate experience for patients and their families reflects the very essence of “Walk With Me” and patient-centered care. They truly embody the spirit of the Compassion in Action Award through their dedication to serving and providing support to our patients.

Sting and bite season is here. Do you know the warning signs of trouble?

Most bee stings and insect bites are harmless. But in some cases, they can trigger a severe allergic reaction within minutes.

Sometimes symptoms go beyond a typical sting reaction and need immediate care.

“If a reaction is fast or affects more than the sting area, don’t ignore it. Early treatment can save lives,” explains Dr. Amit Kumar, allergist at Southern NH Athsma & Allergy.

If you’ve had more than a mild reaction, it’s worth getting checked. Testing and treatment options can help prevent future emergencies and give you peace of mind.
