When temperatures dip below freezing, hypothermia is a concern. It can happen when a person has prolonged exposure to extremely cold temperatures.

“The most common winter injuries are frostbite as well as hypothermia,” said Dr. Marc Grossman, emergency room medical director at Portsmouth Regional Hospital (Portsmouth, NH), and colleague within our larger network, HCA Healthcare. “We also see a lot of slips and falls on ice.”

Just a reminder, if you haven’t already, we encourage you to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and booster shot, especially with the emergence of the Omicron variant. Vaccination remains our best tool for ending this pandemic.

The CDC recently updated its recommendations and now prefers people to receive an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) instead of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Those who have already received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine should receive an mRNA booster shot. Booster shots are given at least six months after completing the primary mRNA vaccination series or at least two months after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center is pleased to welcome Chae Ko, MD to TriStar Medical Group Southern Hills Family Medicine Continuity Clinic. Dr. Ko is a family medicine physician who specializes in primary care services and sports medicine.

Dr. Ko is also joining our Family Medicine Graduate Medical Education (GME) Program as a faculty member where he will oversee residents at the Continuity Clinic. TriStar Southern Hills Family Medicine Residency is led by Program Director, Dr. Ronya Green, who welcomed our first class of residents in July of this year.
