Dear Blue Elk Family Clinic Patient:
We regret to inform you that effective April 15, 2024, we are closing our practice due to unexpected family issues that are causing us to relocate to Minnesota. We will no longer be available to take care of your medical needs after that date. If you need refills, please contact our office before 5 pm on April 30, 2024. After 5 pm, no refills will be able to be given. Starting May 1, 2024, the only service that will be available is sending your medical records to your new healthcare provider.
We recommend that you arrange to have another healthcare provider take care of your medical care as soon as possible. We have included nearby clinics for your convenience.

Simone Biles came on the TV screen.

My husband commented to our girls - “She’s the world’s greatest gymnast”.

I added, “and she’s really brave”.

My 5yo looked at me and asked, “why?”

So I told her.

“Because the American gymnasts used to have a team doctor, who turned out to be a tricky person. He was touching the girls’ private parts. For the girls it was so scary to tell anyone. They didn’t know if anyone would believe them and they were scared they’d lose their spot on the team.

But Simone Biles was one of the girls who spoke up and said what had been happening, and now that tricky doctor is in jail”.

I could see she was still listening, so I added,
“And now, she’s got her own Gymnastics centre, where they make sure the kids are all safe, where their parents can easily watch over them, and they are spoken to kindly instead of being yelled at, which is what lots of coaches do, but it’s not ok”.

My daughter didn’t respond.

She got out of her chair, and watched every moment of Simone Biles’ routine.

Simone Biles was not the first athlete to speak out, she spoke out later - I don’t think this makes her less brave. People go through their own journeys and speak up in their own time. She has kept showing up. She has pressed for change. All of this is brave beyond measure.

I hope the key point was clear: Seize the moments to talk to your kids. Be open. There are age-appropriate ways to talk about everything. They are ready for more than you think.

Our clinic can not bill under Anthem EAP program. This is when an employer pays for counseling. Once Misty is fully licensed then will need to have her put in an application for this separate program that is different than the Anthem clinic is part of now.

This place is different, this place is special. Over the last 10+ years my experience with doctors has not been good in fact it’s been horrible. I stopped going to doctors for things that I probably should have because I didn’t think they would help me and didn’t want to be treated badly anymore. Well my faith has been restored by Blue Elk Family Clinic. I was treated to kindness and compassion. I truly felt I was heard and that Dr. Sanchez wanted to help me. This might seem like a little thing but I can’t tell you how much it meant to me. I didn’t think doctors like this existed anymore. I can’t recommend strongly enough, these are good people.
