TriStar Centennial Medical Center is pleased to announce that it has completed more than 30,000 minimally invasive robotic surgeries.
The hospital’s robotic surgery program began in 2003 when HCA Healthcare founder Dr. Thomas Frist, Jr., and former HCA Healthcare chairman and chief executive officer Jack Bovender led the efforts to purchase the first robot for TriStar Centennial. It was the first robot in Middle Tennessee and was initially utilized for urology procedures.
Today, TriStar Centennial offers minimally invasive surgery using advanced technology across a wide range of specialties. In robotic-assisted procedures, surgeons operate using surgical instruments attached to mechanical arms and a camera arm for viewing.
TriStar Centennial has 19 robotic systems, with a 20th system scheduled to be added later this year. Robotic surgeries at TriStar Centennial include general surgery, gallbladder removal, gynecological surgery, hernia repair, oncology surgery, total joint, cardiac and urological surgery.
To celebrate the milestone, TriStar Centennial is hosting a Robotic Open House event today, Tuesday, Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the entrance of Physicians Park in the Garden Court. The public is invited to attend this hands-on demonstration. Free parking is available in Parking Lot B at 2300 Patterson Street.
