Current wellness trend I'm loving: “nonnamaxxing” 👵🏼🍅
And as a dietitian and someone who directly benefitted from a Non myself? I actually think this trend gets a lot right about longevity.
Nonnas weren’t chasing wellness trends and using biohacking apps— they were building lifestyles around community, nourishment, and joy.
Research continues to show that lifestyle habits linked to longevity — like eating more plants and whole foods, cooking at home, prioritizing community, regilar movement, and enjoying meals without guilt — are associated with better heart, gut, and mental health. And yes… your bread with olive oil absolutely has a seat at the table. 🫒🍞
My dietitian take on “nonnamaxxing”:
🤍 Emphasizing whole foods will naturally add more protein + fiber to meals instead of obsessing over restriction
🤍 Eating what's in season supports your health and the local community
🤍 Eating slowly allows you to actually taste your food
🤍 Daily movement counts even when it’s not a workout class
🤍 Shared family meals support mental health too and pass down positive role modeling and traditions
🤍 Dessert is part of a balanced life, nonna said so
A lot of longevity habits aren’t flashy. Sometimes they look like soup simmering on the stove, fresh herbs from the garden, Sunday dinner with family, and someone insisting you take leftovers home. 🥹✨
Maybe the healthiest thing we can do is slow down enough to enjoy our food, our life, — and the people around the table.
