"I will never stop being grateful for Dr. Gordon. I had a spinal tumor significantly compressing my spinal cord. He validated my pain and offered solutions both in Nashville and back home if I wanted to have surgery there. Ultimately, I chose to have Dr. Gordon perform my surgery. His kind smile and reassurance of a positive outcome made the whole process so much easier.

I was in the hospital for 4 days following the operation and saw multiple doctors from the practice. All incredibly thorough and encouraging throughout the whole process.

I am in nursing school and Dr. Gordon listened to all of my concerns and was willing to work with my schedule so that I could successfully complete that semester. He and his office staff have inspired an interest in neurosurgery and operating room nursing. I would be nothing less than honored to one day work with Dr. Gordon. We had an amazing One Healing Community Week honoring and celebrating our Howell Allen family. We are so grateful for the hard work and dedication our team brings each and every day!

Ray got lost driving home, something he’d never done before. Then came the severe headaches. Trish knew something was wrong, so she took him to the ER and the scans showed a brain tumor. And not just any tumor, an inoperable glioblastoma.

In that moment, fear took over. “We felt like we were in a terrible dream we couldn’t wake up from,” Trish said.

But at Howell Allen Clinic, “inoperable” doesn’t mean “impossible.”

Their care team offered a different option: a laser procedure called NeuroBlate, a minimally invasive treatment that uses heat to destroy brain tumor tissue deep in the brain, offering new hope when surgery isn’t an option.

Last week - thanks to Dr. Abram, Dr. Standard and rest of their care team here at Howell Allen - they heard the words they never thought possible: “The tumor is no longer viable.”

Today, Ray is talking, walking, doing yard work and living with more time, and more hope.

The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of ITP, an autoimmune disease. During his care, Patrick’s family was deeply moved by the extraordinary skill and compassion of his nurses. To honor their impact, they established this international award to recognize the incredible work nurses do every day.
