Can stored emotions make you hold weight?
Not because emotions are calories.
And not because your body is broken.
But because unresolved stress changes the way the nervous system, hormones, and metabolism function over time.
When the body experiences chronic stress, emotional overwhelm, or unresolved threat, it adapts.
đCortisol patterns shift.
đ Blood sugar regulation changes.
đ Inflammatory cycles stay activated.
đ Muscle tone, digestion, sleep, and hunger signaling all adjust.
These are not failures.
They are intelligent protective responses.
The nervous systemâs primary job is not fat loss.
It is survival.
So if stress responses like fight, flight, or freeze never fully resolve, the body may hold weight, water, or inflammation as part of staying safe.
This is why âtrying harderâ with food or exercise often stops working.
And why insight alone doesnât always create change.
Because the body does not release through logic.
It releases through felt safety and physiological completion.
Somatic Emotional Release is one way we support the body in finishing stress cycles that were never completed, gently, consciously, and without reliving the past.
This is one of the coaching techniques we gently weave into our weekly coaching calls inside Awaken Your Nutrition.
This is not about fixing yourself.
Itâs about rebuilding trust with your bodyâs intelligence.
⨠If this resonates, comment âSOMATICâ to join us inside The Training Tree for our free virtual introductory workshop, Somatics 101.
