Do you have an ANT infestation?

I’m not talking about critters in your house; I’m talking about Automatic Negative Thoughts...which are even MORE annoying.

You know, those reactive thoughts that tell you, you aren’t good enough, or that you’ll never be _____ [able to do something/ the perfect spouse/ the perfect]. Much like literal ants, they multiply really quickly and crawl around where they don’t belong.

So how do you stop them?

First, take a few deep breaths; you’ve got this.

Next, acknowledge what they are: JUST THOUGHTS.

When you feel them coming on, tell yourself, “My thoughts are saying x, but the reality is y.”

As in… “My thoughts are saying _____ [I’m going to bomb this presentation, but the reality is that I’m prepared, and I’m going to knock it out of the park!]”

Over time, the ANTs will have less power and you might just get rid of them for good.

Calling all procrastinators...

Do you ever notice that thinking about that thing you don’t want to do is worse than actually doing it?

All that anxiety and panic builds up until that deadline approaches and then you scramble to get it done because you have to. And then you feel immediate relief.

Stop the cycle! All of that stress just isn’t worth it, and it weighs on you over time. So let’s create a new cycle, shall we?

Step 1: Identify the task you really don’t want to do.

Step 2. Don’t think, just do it. Make it the first thing you do.

Step 3. Feel that relief wash over you and enjoy the rest of your day.

Step 4. Repeat. Every. Day.

You’ll be amazed how productive you are and how much less anxious you feel!
