“Pelvic floor injury during vaginal birth is life altering, and preventable. What can we do about it?”

A major review in AJOG (linked below) highlights that pelvic floor injuries during vaginal birth are common—and often unspoken. Up to 19% of first‑time moms show levator ani (pelvic muscle) tears on imaging after birth—injuries linked to long-lasting issues like prolapse and urinary incontinence.

THE GOOD NEWS IS: Pelvic Floor PT helps prevent and repair birth‑related injuries! We would love to collaborate with MORE Perinatal care providers to help with this.❤️ It takes all of us working together to improve women’s health.

This represents approximately 10% of the 3 million women who give birth vaginally each year. Vaginal birth is the largest modifiable risk factor for p...

Did you know pelvic floor physical therapy isn’t just for adults? 👀

Kids can benefit too—especially when issues related to pelvic floor affect their daily life. Dr. Katie is pictured here working with one of our sweet patients! (Shared with permission)

⭐️ Pediatric Pelvic Floor PT rundown:

-Newborn to adolescent
-We treat constipation, urinary incontinence, bedwetting
-Each initial evaluation includes a global assessment of gross motor skills, strength, and mobility, as bowel and bladder dysfunction encompasses more than just the pelvic floor.
-We teach parents specific positioning and handling techniques to promote regular bowel movements
-We make PT fun by playing games and doing activities in a functional way to work toward the patient specific goal

It’s all about building healthy movement patterns in a fun, safe environment. 💪

This is at the same appointment, before and after some hands-on work! Dr. Jenny was having this patient stand straight and pull her chin in and she had no range of motion to get there. Then a little hands on, same cues and she had more ability to correct. 💪💥🫶

Our fresh to 6 program is designed specifically for new moms immediately postpartum up to their 6 week check up. Some key components include:

⭐️Feeding Posture: Review breast and bottle feeding postures to avoid neck and back pain.

⭐️Bowel and Bladder Screen: Tips to avoid bowel and bladder leakage postpartum, ways to make bowel movements more comfortable, and ways to return to better bladder health for a leak free life long term.

⭐️Kegels and Core: Gentle muscle activation of the pelvic floor and deep abdominal muscles to access support when you need it.

⭐️Breath Training: Breath training can help with digestion, bowel movements, anxiety, urinary urgency, pain control, and healing connective tissue!

⭐️Lift and Carry: Learn the best ways to lift and carry your newborn to protect your pelvis and back and avoid injury.

⭐️Pain Assessment: Persistent pain postpartum can make caring for a newborn miserable. Common sites of pain in early postpartum that can be safely addressed and corrected include neck, back, hip, tail bone, and p***c symphysis pain.

Every postpartum journey is unique, and early care can make a difference in your recovery. We are here to help guide and support you, bridging the gap between bringing baby home and returning to work or exercise
