It’s National Volunteer Week, and if there’s one industry where volunteers make a huge difference, it’s hospice care.

Hospice volunteers take time to sit, listen, read, play music, bring pets, and offer companionship to patients during moments of calm. During National Volunteer Week, we honor the individuals who generously give their time to support individuals and families at Heart’n Soul Hospice.

Thank you for sharing your heart 💜

Some of the most important conversations we have in life are also the hardest. On National Healthcare Decisions Day, we gently encourage families to talk about wishes for future care; not out of fear, but out of love.

Research suggests that anywhere from 12% to 44% of patients in hospice or with serious, terminal illnesses may not have any formal advance directives in place upon admission. But advance directives, living wills, and healthcare power of attorney documents are more than just paperwork—they’re gifts that offer clarity, guidance, and peace to family members and loved ones when it’s needed most.

Because we know how hard it is to think, talk about, and navigate this subject, we often walk alongside families as they have these conversations with our team at Heart’n Soul.

Knowing what matters to someone is one of the greatest ways we can honor them.

Parkinson’s disease brings a gradual change in movement, communication, independence, and more. It is an extraordinarily difficult disease, not just for the individual diagnosed but also for those who love them.

In hospice care, our focus is on managing symptoms, providing emotional reassurance, and walking alongside families as they adapt to each new chapter with dignity, comfort, and support.

This month, we honor those living with Parkinson’s and the caregivers who support them with patience, strength, and love.

During National Minority Health Month, we recognize the importance of breaking down barriers to hospice care and ensuring every individual and family receives compassionate, culturally respectful support.

While more than half of white patients utilize hospice services, significantly fewer patients in Black, Hispanic, and Asian communities receive the same support, highlighting a critical gap in access to end-of-life care.

At Heart’n Soul, we’re committed to meeting people where they are with care that honors language, culture, and lived experience. Dignity at life's end is a right, not a privilege.

We're honoring all caregivers this Stress Awareness Month—doctors, nurses, family members, chaplains, and volunteers. Caregiving, while an act of love, can also be overwhelming. It's important to take time for yourself and rest in order to mitigate stress and burnout.

Here’s the truth: Hospice care includes caring for caregivers, too—offering emotional support, respite, and guidance through difficult days. At Heart'n Soul, we're here to make sure you don’t carry it all alone.

Hospice physicians are the expert, steady guidance behind every care plan. They carry both knowledge and humility — understanding how and when medicine shifts from cure to comfort.

They help families navigate difficult decisions with clarity and compassion. They prioritize dignity, listen carefully, and lead gently.

On National Doctors’ Day, we recognize our hospice physicians for the wisdom and humanity they bring to every patient’s journey. Your guidance brings clarity and peace when it’s needed most.

Spring is often a time for cleaning, organizing, and planning ahead.

But have you talked with your family about their wishes for medical care? These conversations can be difficult, but they are ultimately a gift and so important for you and your loved ones.

Advance care planning (ACP) is a core component of hospice, yet research suggests that anywhere from 12% to 44% of patients in hospice or with serious, terminal illnesses may not have any formal advance directives in place upon admission.

Hospice teams can help guide these important discussions with sensitivity and care. It’s something we really prioritize at Heart’n Soul Hospice, because a little preparation can bring tremendous peace. ACP ultimately provides clarity during the hardest, most emotional times.

The first day of spring reminds us that even in life’s most fragile chapters, there can be moments of renewal.

In hospice care, renewal doesn’t always mean recovery. Sometimes it means reconciliation, peace, a meaningful conversation, or even a shared memory.

As the season shifts, we honor the quiet ways that hope still shows up, even in difficult seasons.

🌷 May this new season bring moments of joy.

Certified nurses bring advanced knowledge, critical thinking, and deep clinical skill to hospice care — but what we see families remembering most is their presence.

From managing pain with precision, to anticipating needs before they’re spoken and providing reassurance when fear creeps in, nurses are the backbone of hospice care.

On Certified Nurses Day, we thank our nurses for their care that blends excellence with empathy.

It fills our hearts with gratitude whenever we get the opportunity to extend care and compassion to our community.

This past weekend, our Director of Business Development from our Miami Team, Landa Naya, did just that as she represented Heart'n Soul Hospice at the University of Miami Physicians Health Fair at the YMCA in Allapattah, Florida to help provide free educational resources and health screenings to underserved community members.

Alongside the tireless efforts of UM DOCS, a student-led community outreach program at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Landa was able to provide education on end-of-life care to those who may have otherwise not been able to get these essential resources.

We couldn't be more honored to play a small part in the continued effort to make healthcare more accessible for everyone.

A common myth we'e always sad to hear about hospice is that it doesn’t make much of a difference since it cannot change the outcome of a terminal illness.

The truth is that hospice makes a huge impact because it changes the patient and the family’s experience.

Patients who receive hospice care often experience better symptom management, more comfort, and greater emotional support. In fact, research has shown that hospice care has a positive impact on quality of life and well-being, with some patients living an average of nearly three months longer than those receiving standard care alone.

Hospice doesn’t mean giving up. It means choosing comfort, dignity, and meaningful time. And that makes all the difference in the world.
