Couples therapy is often framed as learning better communication.

But when two people are dysregulated, overwhelmed, or carrying unresolved hurt, communication tools alone are not enough.

Every relationship brings two nervous systems into the room. Old experiences, stress, loss, and attachment wounds do not stay neatly in the past. They show up in real time, especially during conflict.

This is why working with a trauma-trained therapist in couples therapy is not optional. It is what allows sessions to stay safe, paced, and productive. It also helps identify when individual healing is needed alongside relational work, rather than pushing couples past what their systems can hold.

This is not about blame or labeling anyone as broken. It is about care, protection, and creating the conditions where real repair can happen.

If you are looking for couples therapy that honors both the relationship and the people inside it, we would love to support you!

Attachment trauma develops when emotional safety, consistency, or attunement were unpredictable. Not always absent, but unreliable enough that your nervous system learned to stay on alert.

You might notice it show up as
• hypervigilance in relationships
• fear of abandonment or closeness
• difficulty trusting safe connection
• people pleasing, shutdown, or pulling away
• emotional reactions that feel bigger than the moment

These are not flaws.
They are nervous system adaptations.

Healing does not come from forcing security.
It comes from building safety, choice, and repair over time, often in relationship.

If this resonates and you are looking for support, working with a trauma informed therapist can help you understand these patterns and gently shift them.

We are here when you are ready to connect!

🤍 New year, same commitment to thoughtful, trauma-informed care. 🤍

✨ As we step into this next season, we wanted to reintroduce the clinicians who make up Trauma Therapy of Nashville.

✨ Each therapist on our team brings a distinct clinical lens, deep training, and a grounded presence. We work collaboratively, refer thoughtfully, and care deeply about doing this work with integrity.

✨ We believe in depth over quick fixes, collaboration over silos, and meeting people where they actually are.

✨If you’re looking for support in the year ahead, we’re here to help you find the right fit.

🤍 We’d love to connect with you.

✨✨ New Year. No reinvention required.✨✨✨

You do not have to become someone else to be worthy of care, rest, or healing. You are allowed to arrive exactly as you are. Tired. Hopeful. Uncertain. Grounded. Still figuring it out.

And you are also allowed to change.

Not because you should.
Not because everyone else is.
But because something no longer fits.

This year can be about listening more closely.
Letting what is misaligned loosen its grip.
Keeping what feels steady, honest, and true.

You get to choose what stays.
You get to choose what goes.
You get to move at your own pace.

We are here for the work of honoring who you are now and supporting who you are becoming. 🤍

May this new year be better than the last!

✨IVE GOT SOME EXCITING NEWS TO SHARE! ✨

Melanie here! I’m leaning deeper into teaching, trainings and mentoring in a way that feels really joyful and grounded! This new creation is called Groundwork Trauma Education.

What’s at the heart of Groundwork Trauma Education

At the core of everything I do, I want to help therapists become really good therapists—
the kind who enjoy the work,
trust themselves in the room,
and create therapy that heals.

I started Groundwork Trauma Education because I’ve seen how much harm can happen when trauma work isn’t embodied.

Too many clinicians learn a protocol but never learn how to live it, breathe it, and use it as an artful tool in the room.

This is about learning to move with a client moment by moment— not getting lost in your head wondering if you’re doing it wrong, but trusting your own grounded presence.

Groundwork is about laying a foundation.
In ourselves.
With our clients.
And within our field.

It’s doing the inner work that lets us show up whole.
It’s learning to see healing capacity, not dysfunction.
It’s not just being “trauma-informed.”
It’s being trauma responsive.

This isn’t a come-listen-and-get-your-certificate kind of space.
It’s a community.
A place to return to, ask questions, share wisdom, and keep growing.

I built Groundwork because we need to go upstream—
to prevent harm before it happens,
to help therapists stay grounded and sustainable,
and to keep trauma therapy rooted in humanity.

If you’re here and you feel that tug—
if you’re craving a community that nourishes you as a therapist—listen to your gut and get on our email list to stay up to date or our offerings and connection points!

✨NEW TRAINING✨

Im so excited to finally announce this training for BOTH therapists AND medical providers!

It’s been in the works for quite some time and I’m very passionate about creating ethically sound and safe spaces, especially when it comes to Ketamine Assisted Therapy!

What sets this training apart is its focus on the collaboration between medical providers and therapists to create a well rounded care team for the client.

I’m deeply honored to have Kelly Anderson with Deeper Wisdom Nashville joining some of the modules to share her wisdom from the medical provider’s perspective.

A few notes:
We will have two experiential sessions. You do not have to engage with ketamine to participate.

I am awaiting my approval as a NBCC CEU provider. This should come by the end of the year. All trainings by Groundwork Trauma Education are developed to meet these standards.

✨ Big news I’ve been holding close ✨

I’m so excited to finally share something that has been in the works for a long time…

This offering feels like the next natural step in my work. It’s something I’ve poured so much intention into creating, and honestly, it lights me up!

🌿 Last winter, I hit burnout and made the choice to slow down. It wasn’t easy—especially when January rolled around and I saw all the new, shiny offerings other people were launching. That season taught me a lot about sitting in stillness, resisting the urge to constantly produce, and learning that “enough” doesn’t have to mean doing more.

🌿 In the quiet, I got clarity. I was able to hone in on what actually felt good and true for me. That led to my workshop Beyond the Hour: How to Structure + Facilitate Intensives that I offered in June (Also now available as an on-demand + self paced home study!), and eventually to building this next branch of my work: a space to walk alongside other therapists as they grow—in skill, in confidence, and in their businesses.

✨✨ So today, I’m proud to introduce The Clinician’s Compass - Holistic Trauma Education. Through workshops, trainings, and resources, I’ll be offering continuing education and support for practitioners who want to deepen their craft and build sustainable, intentional practices. ✨✨

🌿 I’ve also applied to become an NBCC Approved Continuing Education Provider. Whew, what an intense process! Once approved, I’ll be able to offer CEU credit for many of these trainings!

New workshops and trainings coming late fall and early next year!
