🚽✨ Potty training is not one-size-fits-all, especially when it comes to communication! Every child learns and expresses themselves differently, and that’s something to celebrate. 💛
During potty training, a child may communicate in many ways, including:
🗣️ Words or simple phrases – “Potty,” “Go pee,” “All done!”
🖼️ Picture cards (PECS) – selecting a potty symbol
🤟 Gestures or signs – pointing, tapping, or using signs like toilet
🖥️ AAC devices – pressing a button or symbol to request the bathroom
👀 Body language – wiggling, hiding, or showing other cues
What matters most is communication, not how it’s expressed. ✅ When we lean into the child’s easiest and most natural way to communicate, we help them feel confident, understood, and successful.
💬 Communication is connection, supporting the form that works best for the child builds trust and opens the door for progress in potty training and beyond.
