The evolution of Filipino American mental health over the past 50 years is permeated with exuberance, resilience, adversity, and progress. Ineradicably linked with our advancement are the threads of culture, history and experience forming both an individual as well as a community perception of mental health.

This Filipino American History Month, we honor the trailblazers who laid the groundwork for the advancement of Filipino American mental health. Their visionary efforts, often in the face of adversity, have paved the way for ongoing progress and the empowerment of our community.

Celebrating half a century of resilience, growth, and advancement in Filipino American mental health. From the formation of pioneering organizations to groundbreaking research and leadership, this journey reflects the strength and spirit of our community. by Francis Sanchez, MD, DFAPA and Katherine

While social media has become an inherent part of adolescents' lives, it is crucial to navigate this digital landscape with caution. As healthcare providers, educators, and parents, we must strive to create a safe and healthy digital environment for our youth. Though this modern age challenge may seem daunting, with concerted efforts, we can ensure that our teens thrive in the digital era without compromising their mental health.

50TH ANNIVERSARY MEETING

Hi friends!

I hope spring has been treating all of you well. We only have 40 days left to go before our 50th birthday! 🎉 We hope to catch up with all of our members at the American Psychiatric Association's Annual Meeting in NYC soon. If you haven't already RSVP'd, please do so here: https://www.philpsychusa.org/.

This year, we will be having a dinner banquet on May 5 (Sunday), 6:30 to 10 PM (venue to follow *soon*), instead of our usual lunch to celebrate the occasion. Our organization will be presenting its first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award and recognition will be given to yet another trailblazer in Filipino American psychiatry history. Our keynote speaker, Dr. Geraldine Mayor, will enlighten us about youth and gun violence. A distinguished panel of former PPA presidents will highlight our organization's achievements through the decades of their membership and leadership terms. A souvenir program will serve as our keepsake to remind us of what we've achieved in our *decades* of collective advocacy and representation for the sake of our vocation and health equity.

Your officers have been deep in the trenches preparing for all these and having been meeting monthly. We appreciate your support and involvement. Project proposals thus far include regular kapihan lectures, a MediCine movie night, and the donation of an ECT machine to a charity hospital in the Philippines. In the past year alone, members have done psychoeducational collaborations with various national and Philippine organizations, as well as research targeting the Filipino American diaspora.

If you are a member and would like to be involved with event prep, please PM any of us. Donations in any amount, recruitment, and membership renewals are *most welcome* and can be accomplished here: https://www.philpsychusa.org/membership.html. We also welcome individual/corporate/organizational sponsorships and gifts towards the event and souvenir program (https://www.philpsychusa.org/ppaspad.html). Our solicitation letter can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/ppasolltr.

Please join our annual raffle to win any of these prizes:
1st Prize - $100 Amazon gift card
2nd Prize - iWALK Portable Charger with Changeable Plugs 5000mAh 20W Small Power Bank
3rd Prize - $50 Gift Certificate for Filipino Accents by Melanie Perone Designs Items (window shop at https://tinyurl.com/fampd)

Entries can be purchased here: https://philpsychusa.betterworld.org/. More raffle items will also be available on site.

Regular and 50th anniversary shirts will be available for purchase at our website next week as well on site.

For any questions or concerns, please feel free to comment below, PM, or email us at ppa@philpsychusa.org.

Thank you again for all that you do. See you soon!

Blessed Easter greetings to all of you in this season of renewal and rebirth! This time of year carries the promise of new beginnings, hope, and joy, mirroring the invaluable work we do every day in bringing healing and hope to those who seek our help.

We understand that the journey of mental health is a continuous one, that it carries its own share of crosses. Yet, the commitment and dedication we show in lighting the way for others, especially in these challenging times, is truly reminiscent of the Easter spirit of resilience and renewal.

May this Easter season bring much-needed rest, rejuvenation, and joy. As we gather with our families, either in person or virtually, may we experience the warmth of love and the comfort of togetherness.

Let's also take a moment to remember and pray for our patients, their families, and our dedicated healthcare community. May the promise of Easter offer them courage, strength, and hope.

Thank you for your unwavering commitment to the mental health community and for the positive impact of your work every day.
