Also known as Imposter Phenomenon, a term that was coined by Dr. Pauline Clance.

Imposter syndrome is a deep rooted fear of being “found out” as a “fraud” despite evidence against this fear.

Imposter syndrome can lead to experiencing burnout, holding back on ideas, not living up to your full potential, feeling that you are self-sabotaging, constant comparison, anxiety, depression, and feeling an overall sense of unfulfillment.

The relationship between a client & therapist plays a huge role in the effectiveness of therapy. Finding the perfect fit can take time. Some ways to know if you’ve found a good fit are:

1. You feel comfortable speaking with them, even during difficult conversations. You feel heard, validated, and respected by them.

2. They have experience treating or specialize in the areas you are seeking therapy for.

3. Their approach or therapeutic modality aligns with your personality, beliefs, and worldview.

8 tips for avoiding burnout:

Practice self-care: Taking care of yourself is essential in preventing burnout. Ensure that you are getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and taking breaks to relax and recharge.

Set boundaries: Establishing clear boundaries between work and personal life is important to avoid burnout. Set realistic working hours and stick to them. Avoid checking emails or work-related messages outside of working hours.

Prioritize tasks: Prioritize your tasks according to their importance and urgency. Tackle the most critical tasks first, and leave less critical ones for later. This helps you to manage your workload more effectively and reduces stress.

Delegate tasks: Delegating tasks to colleagues or subordinates can help reduce your workload and prevent burnout. Identify tasks that can be delegated and assign them to others who are capable of handling them.

Take breaks: Taking regular breaks throughout the day can help you stay refreshed and productive. Take short breaks between tasks to stretch your legs, grab a snack, or chat with a colleague.

Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness can help you stay focused and calm, reducing stress and preventing burnout. Take a few minutes each day to practice mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing or meditation.

Seek support: Don't hesitate to reach out to colleagues or friends for support if you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed. Talking to someone who understands can help you feel less isolated and more supported.

Take time off: Taking time off from work is essential to prevent burnout. Plan regular vacations or breaks, and use your time off to rest, relax, and recharge.
