🚑We value the incredible commitment to care of our local EMS.🚑 As first responders, patient treatment starts with them at the scene, and we wouldn't do our jobs without them. We recently recognized members of Nashville Fire for a successful 28-minute door to balloon intervention in collaboration with our TriStar Southern Hills team - the national average is 60 minutes.

The EMS crew recalled, “We knew we had to get somewhere fast and we love to come to Southern Hills. Plus, Dr. Ali even met us at the door!”

Meet Bailyn (right), a patient of Dr. Dierckman at TriStar Southern Hills, pictured here with her mother.

Bailyn has been a track runner her whole life, but after being diagnosed with hip dysplasia, she needed surgery. She recently returned to visit Southern Hills and share more of her journey.

“At first, I was nervous about this journey and how surgery would be, but the nurses and doctors were there every step up of the way, constantly giving me comfort and positivity. If I feel comfortable, I feel like I can do anything, so it helped put me in that mindset that I can do this. Waking up after surgery was scary because I’ve been a track runner my whole life, but they were always there to comfort and help me.” -Bailyn

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a condition in which narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to the arms or legs. It’s easy to mistake PAD for other conditions like hip arthritis or spinal stenosis, which means often goes undiagnosed. Many people with PAD don’t experience symptoms at all. That’s why awareness of risk factors – such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and smoking – is crucial for screening.

Understanding the early warning signs is the first step toward timely intervention and better quality of life. In most cases, lifestyle changes, exercise and medications are enough to slow the progression or even reverse the symptoms of PAD, so talk to your doctor if you think you may be at risk.
