Today, September 13, is World Sepsis Day. At TriStar Southern Hills, our Quality team works to prevent infections and enhance patient safety. Mary, our stroke & sepsis coordinator, is a real superhero and shared important sepsis facts below!
✅Sepsis is a life-threatening emergency that happens when your body’s response to an infection damages vital organs. Each year, at least 1.7 million adults in the U.S. develop sepsis.
✅It’s a medical emergency that requires rapid diagnosis and treatment.
✅Symptoms may include clammy or sweaty skin, confusion or disorientation, extreme pain or discomfort, fever, shivering or feeling very cold, high heart rate or weak pulse, and/or shortness of breath
✅Bacterial infections cause most cases of sepsis. Sepsis can also be a result of other infections, including viral infections, such as influenza. Fungal infections can also cause sepsis.
✅Stay healthy by preventing infections, practicing good hand hygiene, know the signs of sepsis, and act fast an infection is not getting better.
If you or someone you know shows signs of sepsis, seek medical care immediately.🚑
