Calling all parents whose kids communicate differently: we GET you & your kiddo! 🫶

If you’ve been struggling to get your child motivated to work toward their goals… this might be the shift you’ve been looking for.

Here’s the thing:
music therapy often doesn’t feel like therapy to your child.

It feels like play. Connection. Being understood.

Imagine your child using music to work toward the very goals you’ve been trying so hard to reach.

This is what we do every day, and we meet kids exactly where they are, as they are.

We’d love to be a part of your village. Book a discovery call to learn more.

POV: Your neurodivergent kiddo’s communication starts taking off in music therapy. 👀🥳

Many kids with autism and other developmental differences are gestalt language processors (GLPs).
That means they often learn language in chunks (songs, scripts, and familiar phrases) rather than single words first.

Musical phrases like the ones Becca is modeling here give the brain something powerful:
predictable language patterns.

Over time, those patterns can become clearer, more independent communication.

That’s what you’re seeing in this video. Pretty amazing, right?

If you’re wondering whether music therapy could support your child’s communication, you can learn more or book a discovery call through the link in our bio.

When people hear music therapy, the first question is always:

“But what actually happens in a session?”

The answer: these interventions.

Songwriting.
Improvisation.
Music-guided meditation.
Drumming.
Movement to music.

Music therapists use specific clinical techniques to support things like communication, emotional regulation, confidence, and connection.

It may look simple from the outside.
But every intervention has a clinical purpose.

Curious if music therapy could help you or your child?

What we hear from most of our Empower parents...

That your days are full — managing appointments, tough transitions, and complex support needs.

You’re in therapies, but you haven’t yet found a space that sparks pure joy.

You’re noticing a need for whole-person support.. milestones, communication, emotional expression — not just checking boxes.

That music has always made your child light up.
And you’re wondering… could that actually lead to real growth?

What you really want is a place where your child can be fully themselves, supported, celebrated, and truly seen.

We’re here to tell you something:
This is that place.
And we would love to meet you!

If you (or your child) have ADHD and have been wondering why traditional supports don’t always seem to fit — you’re not alone.

At Empower, we work with so many individuals and families who feel like they need something just a bit more expressive and flexible than the standard options. As music therapists, we get how ADHD brains work: the busy thoughts, big feelings, impulse swings, and the deep need for connection and creativity.

Music therapy supports executive functioning, emotional regulation, impulse control, confidence, and coping — all through creative, meaningful, musical experiences. We’re not asking you (or your child) to work against how your brain processes the world. We work with it.

This is strength-based, neurodiversity-affirming support — tailored to real life, not just the therapy room.

If you’re curious whether music therapy could be a good fit, we’d love to talk.

Our team grew from 5 to 9 in 2025 — and as I write that, I can feel the gratitude well up in my chest. What a wild, beautiful thing it is to build something alongside people who care this deeply.

At Empower, we hold two arms of this work: our clinic and our facility partnerships. Together, our full-time and part-time clinicians bring music therapy to as many people and places as we can reach. Over the last 5 years, that reach has stretched across Tennessee and even into the Southeast — one relationship, one song, one session at a time.

Music therapy is an incredibly powerful modality, and I believe with my whole heart that it deserves to exist in more rooms, more schools, more facilities, more communities. The fact that we get to be part of that growth — this early in our story — gives me so much hope for our field and its future.

As we look toward 2026, I keep coming back to this truth: the most powerful thing about Empower is the people who choose to show up here. This team makes it clear that when we move together, anything is possible.

And the best part?
We’re just getting started.

We’re overjoyed to welcome our newest full-time team member, Hanna Kikos, MT-BC (she/her), to the Empower team!

Hanna is a board-certified music therapist and Belmont University graduate whose thoughtfulness, compassion, and grounded presence shine through every session she leads. Her professional journey has taken her from pediatric oncology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital—supporting children and families through unimaginably tender seasons—to working with neurodiverse students in Chicago Public Schools, and later with adolescents and adults in inpatient mental health settings here in Nashville.

At Empower, Hanna brings both versatility and wholeheartedness to her work. She leads individual sessions, facilitates music therapy groups through community partnerships, and offers home visits to make therapy more accessible.

Hanna’s philosophy is simple yet powerful: “Music therapy is a beautiful space for you to be your authentic self.” Inspired by the lyrics “There’s a place for us, somewhere a place for us…” from West Side Story, she creates spaces where people feel seen, valued, and safe to show up exactly as they are.

We are so grateful to have Hanna on our team. Her empathy, integrity, and deep commitment to ethical, high-quality care make her a true embodiment of Empower’s mission.

Hanna, welcome home. 🫶
