Hi! I’m Cindy. I’m the previous owner of four hot yoga studios in upstate New York. I’m a certified Bikram, yin yoga and level II/III Barkan Vinyasa teacher. I’ve also completed Ana Forrest's Advanced Yoga training as well as Baptiste's Art of Assisting and Advanced Art of Assisting trainings. I’ve completed 500 hours with both Jimmy Barkan and Rolf Gates. For five years, I assisted Jimmy Barkan at his level II/III Vinyasa teacher trainings. I currently leads 200 hour yoga alliance certified vinyasa teacher trainings and Hot 26 teacher trainings. I’m also proud to be an Africa Yoga Ambassador. I now live in Nashville, Tennessee with my two boys and am the proud owner of Yogasoul yoga studio.
I began dabbling in yoga around 2003-2004, but then moved to upstate New York around the same time where they didn’t have a hot yoga studio. As a result, my practice was intermittent at best and I missed having it as a supplement to my running. I was a practicing attorney in New York for about 3 years during that time, but quickly realized it was not the lifestyle I wanted long term. It made natural sense to me then to quit practicing law and attend Yoga Teacher Training instead. I knew it was a smart professional move because I could open the first hot studio in the area and get my yoga back!!!!
One year after completing my first training in 2008, I opened my first studio Hot Yoga Saratoga, and then proceeded to open two more and take over a fourth one from a previous owner. For 6 years I ran studios in New York and led teacher trainings. In the process, though, I lost my connection to teaching because I was doing more managing than anything else. In an effort to get back to my love of teaching, to escape the cold of upstate New York and to be closer to my hometown of Louisville, KY, we decided to sell the studios and move to Nashville.
I have been teaching in Nashville for almost three years now and I love this city! When my primary studio of employment closed its doors here, I decided it was time to give the studio business another try. I just recently opened Yogasoul on the corner of Eighth and Wedgewood, an upcoming area in Nashville. I love this space! Yogasoul’s mission is to provide a supportive and community driven space for students to connect with others; to celebrate, elevate and empower their souls; and to become the best versions of themselves. It has two spacious rooms where we can offer all sorts of styles and temperatures of yoga. In particular, I’m passionate about bringing visiting instructors and trainings to the space to help grow the burgeoning yoga scene in Nashville. Leading teachers in training is also one of my passions. I love helping them connect to their Dharma through the training process, even if it means becoming something other than a yoga teacher. Through the yoga process, and particularly the teacher training process, I am able to watch many students find where they are supposed to be and what they are supposed to be doing. It is a profound thing to watch as someone is able to take their yoga practice and use it as a means to inspire themselves and the people around them. Over the course of a training, even intensive ones, so many changes occur for students. It's so fun to watch people use their physical practice to find their voice, express themselves and become more embodied.
I hope to continue to grow Yogasoul and share my passion for Yoga. I think anyone can benefit from this practice. It changed my life for the better and I hope it can do the same for everyone who walks through those doors!
