You Are Still Growing Too!
Being a counselor doesn’t mean you’ve “arrived.”
You are still learning, growing, and uncovering your own patterns—and that ongoing work is what deepens your ability to show up for others with authenticity and care.

Not all stress is the same—learning to recognize the difference between everyday stress and chronic stress can have a powerful impact on your overall well-being.

Our Marriage and Family Therapy program is preparing graduate students to approach care through a biopsychosocial lens, understanding how stress shows up in the body, mind, and spirit so they can support clients with deeper insight and compassion.

In this video, Dr. Megahn Lack shares how stress can present in our lives and offers guidance on when it may be time to seek additional support through counseling.

Real learning goes beyond the classroom. Real-life experience is where knowledge turns into confidence, purpose, and impact. One of the best perks of being a Lipscomb University undergraduate psychology major is the opportunity to earn internship credit while gaining hands-on experience in the field. Learning, growing, and serving — all at the same time. 💛💜🦬

We are grateful for the partnership of internship sites such as Sessions Psychology, Mt. Juliet Police Department, DePriest Center, and many others who invest in the next generation of professionals.

📰 CAMPUS REPORT: Brilliant minds spotted in the Lipscomb Psychology Undergrad Department.

Our newsroom has confirmed standout professors making an impact in the classroom and beyond.

First up: Dr. Spivey — behavioral neuroscience expert, mentor to psychology seniors, and trusted guide for students navigating internships, jobs, and life after graduation. If you ask a complicated question in class, early reports suggest the answer might begin with: “It depends.”

Dr. Miller — bringing expertise in biological psychology, neurobiology, and research on everything from circadian rhythms to the psychology of religion. Reports also suggest students may occasionally hear about football weekends during class discussions. 🏈

Dr. Ray — Lipscomb alumna, Nashville native, and Executive Associate Dean, helping students integrate new technology into their learning as they prepare for a changing world. Insider sources say you may occasionally hear references to Hildegard of Bingen during lectures.

Dr. Heritage — Specializing in mindfulness, research, and psychological measurement, and helping students explore the science behind how we think, feel, and focus. Students shared that he’s bringing curiosity, insight, and a little mindfulness to every class. If you take his classes, be ready to hear: “We’re going to start class with our mindful moment.” 🧘‍♂️

Conclusion of today’s report: mentorship is strong, research is thriving, curiosity is encouraged, and psychology students are in very good hands, and their futures look bright.

Happy Monday, and stay tuned for more...

Therapists aren’t here to provide advice or tell people how to live their lives. 💬

Instead, we create a space where clients can explore their values, clarify what truly matters to them, and move toward the goals they choose for themselves. Counseling is about empowerment—walking alongside someone as they discover their own insight, strength, and direction.

Because lasting change doesn’t come from advice. It comes from self-understanding and intentional growth. 🌱

Celebrating service, leadership, and impact! 🌟

Each fall and spring, the Iota Delta Chapter of CSI honors a Clinical Mental Health Counseling alum with the Community Service Award during our initiation ceremony. This award recognizes an individual who demonstrates exceptional dedication to serving Davidson County and surrounding communities, particularly underserved and marginalized populations, while embodying the values of honesty, empathy, leadership, and commitment to diverse communities.

This spring, the faculty selected Mikaila D. Robinson, LPC-MHSP, NCC, a CMHC graduate from December 2021, as our Community Service Award recipient. Mikaila’s dedication to service and her impact in the community continue to inspire those around her.

Congratulations, Mikaila, and thank you for the meaningful work you do! 👏

Finding your voice starts with feeling safe, supported, and seen. 💛💜

In Lipscomb’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, students aren’t just learning how to care for others—they’re experiencing a community that models it. From supportive professors to encouraging peers, this is a space where you can grow, ask hard questions, and become the counselor you’re called to be.

Because the best counselors are formed in communities where belonging, trust, and support come first. 🦬

Thanks, Brendan for sharing your experience!
