Last night I watched The Stone on Netflix. A good movie out of Thailand that revolves around the chaos of a young man discovering his father owned a super rare Thai amulet. Chaos ensues.
This got me thinking about the story behind my Thai amulet. I purchased it outside of Wat Si Koet in Chiang Mai. There were many sellers throughout Chiang Mai, but this individual called to me. As did this amulet (I had no desire to purchase one prior to seeing the one I ended up buying).
After a bit of sleuthing online, I was able to verify the information giving to me by the seller. I also discovered that it has its own fun backstory, the full extent of which I will never know. It's uncommon, possibly even rare, and almost worthless when it comes to monetary value. I find that combination oddly beautiful.
Going back down this rabbit hole of discovery reminded me of the need to be more mindful during my practice and in daily life. What fills your bowl depends on your actions. That true loving-kindness isn't reserved for the ones who are the easiest to give it to. There is magic in these amulets, even if it's only to remind us of the values we wish to keep. - Jacob
