February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, and emotional abuse in teen relationships is more common than most people realize.
The signs aren't always obvious. A partner who checks their phone constantly, tells them what to wear, makes them feel guilty for having friends, or criticizes them in front of others then claims they're joking.
Over time, this chips away at self-worth. They start doubting themselves, feeling anxious and on edge, walking on eggshells. They stop trusting their own feelings.
If your teen just got out of a relationship like this, rebuilding takes time. Help them understand what happened wasn't normal and wasn't their fault. Create space for them to talk without judgment.
But if the anxiety, sadness, or self-doubt won't lift, they don't have to push through it alone.
I'm a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in Nashville and Hendersonville, Tennessee, and I work with teens and young adults recovering from trauma and emotional abuse.
Initial Psychiatric Evaluations are 60-minute sessions where we talk about what happened, how it's affecting them now, and what they need to heal. Then we'll create a treatment plan designed specifically for them. Pharmacogenetic testing is also available.
👉🏾 Your teen deserves to feel like themselves again. Schedule an Initial Psychiatric Evaluation.
