This is a great drill to address weight shift and pelvic/ hip turn in the golf swing. We can also use it in low back, hip, knee, and ankle rehab to begin loading these joints and structures dynamically again.

Focus on loading through the heel on the elevated side and braking from the lead side to slow the weight down.

This is a great drill for golfers who have improved their access to a clean weight shift and turn at the hips and pelvis. It is important with this drill to progress to a heavy band or heavy med ball rather quickly, forcing these joints to create more force, interact with the ground more efficiently, and then learn to absorb these forces (match them) on the lead side.

For anyone with a history of ACL tear, knee injury, hip injury, or chronic ankle sprains, this drill is also a fantastic way to work through and eliminate compensatory motor patterns and inhibition.

This week, we discussed the difference between back swing and downswing loading. Most golfers think they need to build the tension in the backswing, going further and further before springing back for a fast downswing.

The truth is the best golfers in the world use the downswing to create the forces for a fast swing. It is the process of initiating the downswing that creates the speed!

This clip from Golf Podcast Episode 23 describes some of the key characteristics and role of the glute muscles in the golf swing.

TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) describes these muscles as the "King of the golf swing" because of how important these characteristics are. Controlling and moving the pelvis in all three planes of motion (flexion and extension, rotation, and side to side tilt) is critical in creating the efficiency and power creating movements required for an impactful swing. Learn more about addressing these muscles and improving these characteristics with the full podcast episode available on YouTube and Spotify!

This is a great position for golfers struggling to turn at either the torso or the pelvis and hips.

Here, we create expansion at the rib cage, flexion and extension at opposite hips, and address the real biomechanics of creating turn. This can also be great for low back pain and tightness in the mid and upper back.

This is a great and classic move for chronic or acute low back pain.

Bringing the facet joints of the lumbar spine into end range extension can be fantastic for bringing awareness and decreasing pain signals from these joints. If you have radiating pain into the lower extremity, this movement can help desensitize these nerves as we move in and out of extension.

Work into sets of 15-20 of these movements pressing as high as you can before running into pain and see how this changes your symptoms after 3-4 sets.

This heavy band drill is great during mid-stage rehab and performance work.

This movement, when done well, incoorporates foot and ankle supination/ pronation, ground reaction forces, hip internal rotation and adduction, and hip external rotation and abduction.

These subtle movements are just as important as the big movements when it comes to creating consistent golf swings.

When we are looking at the common restrictions that hold you back from braking 90 consistently in a round of golf, we need to look at the wrist.

If we are missing mobility and strength at the wrist, it will be a major limiter in your ability to consistently set the club head and control it. This may be a reason why club head control continues to improve and regress like a cycle.

Don't mistake a wrist restriction problem on poor skill or a shoulder limitation!

05/19/2026

This is a great drill for shoulder, thoracic spine, and scapula rehab. We can also build in the action and sequencing of trunk and shoulder separation in this process, making it a great late stage rehab drill.

The shoulder complex as whole is being called to work in a position of external rotation while the trunk and pelvis move independently of it.

Give us a DM if you are struggling with restrictions in your golf swing or have pain and mobility loss at the shoulder!
