👁️ Photoscreening vs. Visual Acuity — What’s the Difference?

Both play an important role in pediatric vision screening, but they measure different things.

Photoscreening detects risk factors for amblyopia, including vision issues like refractive errors and eye misalignment, and works especially well for younger or pre-verbal children.

Visual acuity tests how clearly a child can see and requires them to identify letters or symbols, making it best for children who are developmentally ready.

With GoCheck Kids, providers can perform photoscreening and visual acuity on the same device, making screening simple and efficient.

💡 Are you capturing the full value of the screenings you already perform?

Vision and hearing screenings are essential parts of pediatric preventive care, but practices may miss reimbursement opportunities if documentation and billing workflows aren’t optimized.

With the right tools and processes in place, screenings performed during well visits can be efficiently documented and supported for billing, including commonly used CPT codes like 99177 for instrument-based vision screening and 92551 for pure tone audiometry. 👁️👂

At GoCheck Kids, we help practices streamline pediatric vision and hearing screening with solutions designed to fit seamlessly into clinical workflows and EHR systems, making it easier to support accurate documentation and billing. 💻

Well visits are already packed with important screenings, conversations, and care decisions. When tools don’t integrate with existing workflows, even simple screenings can slow things down. ⏱️

Integrated screening solutions help reduce friction by fitting directly into the clinical workflow. With vision and hearing screenings connected to the EHR, practices can streamline documentation, minimize manual entry, and keep the focus on the patient.

At GoCheck Kids, our platform is designed to support efficient well visits by bringing pediatric vision and hearing screening into one connected system. Less friction for staff, smoother visits for families, and better screening compliance for practices. ✅

👁️ March is Save Your Vision Month!

Clear vision is essential to a child’s development, yet many vision issues go undetected in early childhood.

In fact, children don’t always know they’re seeing the world differently. Blurry vision, amblyopia, or refractive errors can quietly impact learning, behavior, and confidence long before a concern is raised.

That’s why early, routine vision screening matters.

During Save Your Vision Month, we’re highlighting the importance of:

✔️ Screening before kindergarten

✔️ Identifying risk factors early

✔️ Reducing barriers to specialty referrals

✔️ Supporting school readiness through preventive care

At GoCheck Kids, we believe modern screening technology should make it easier for pediatric providers to detect concerns early and take action.

Let’s make early detection the standard — not the exception.

🍀 AAPOS is in Boston this month! 🇺🇸

GoCheck Kids is looking forward to attending the upcoming annual meeting of the AAPOS- American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus in Boston from March 18–22.

AAPOS is always an important event for us as we value the opportunity to stay connected with the pediatric ophthalmology community, listen, learn, and ensure we’re aligned with the specialists who care for the patients we help identify through screening.

From walking the historic streets of Boston to engaging in conversations with leaders in pediatric eye care, we’re excited to strengthen relationships and remain part of the broader vision care ecosystem.

If you’ll be at AAPOS, stop by and say hello to our team!

🔊 World Hearing Day | March 3

Early hearing detection matters, because sound is how children learn to speak, read, and connect with the world around them.

On World Hearing Day, we’re reminded that hearing concerns in children often go unnoticed, especially in busy practices or rural communities where access to audiology services may be limited.

That’s why integrated screening matters.

By combining pure tone audiometry, visual acuity, and photoscreening on one mobile device, providers can support whole-child wellness in a single visit — without adding workflow burden.

At GoCheck Kids, we’re proud to help pediatric practices make hearing screening more accessible, efficient, and actionable.

Because when kids can hear clearly, they can learn confidently. 💙

📱 Screenings don’t have to be scary.

Traditional screening devices can feel unfamiliar to young patients—sometimes leading to anxiety or incomplete exams. Using a smartphone helps kids feel comfortable and engaged, while giving providers the accurate results they need.

GoCheck Kids turns a device children already recognize into a powerful vision and hearing screening tool—making exams smoother for patients and workflows easier for practices.

Photoscreen So Patients Flourish

All Children Deserve Preventive Care.

The AAP recommends annual photoscreening starting at 1 year old.

Ambylopia is the #1 cause of childhood blindness.

The most common type, refractive amblyopia, is often invisible during a physical exam.
