SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) sees 988 as a first step towards a transformed crisis care system in America. There is hope. Providing 24/7, free and confidential support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress works. The Lifeline helps thousands of people overcome crisis situations every day.

What does it mean to be happy? Well…. That is up to you. It would help if you defined happiness yourself because happiness is a broad term that means different things to different individuals. What we know about happiness is that it’s an emotional state of joy, fulfillment, satisfaction, gratitude, pride, excitement and contentment. Happiness involves life satisfaction and positive emotions. Is happiness an endpoint? How about changing your perception of happiness as the endpoint and viewing it as small things you can do to make yourself happier now. Happiness isn’t a constant state of bliss; think of it as experiencing more positive feelings versus negative feelings. Happy people still feel the whole array of human emotions, such as frustration, loneliness, anger, boredom, and even sadness sometimes. Yet, even when faced with adversity, happy people tend to cope better and find their way back to happiness.

It's important that we learn how to address our concerns before things escalate. Take a moment and ask yourself these questions. Do you sleep enough? What are you feeling right now? Do you show yourself and others kindness? Do you need to move more? Are you nourishing yourself?
