Here's some interesting reading (and watching) for you. Dan Buettner's many years of exploring the areas of the world that contain the most centenarians has given him a unique and insightful perspective on aging and how to do it well.
The 7 healthy habits you can read about above help extend longevity with joy. The habits really are not surprising but the length and happiness of the lives of these elders lend a resounding credence to the philosophy.
