"Breathing isn't something we normally have to think about but in the presence of persisting pain, the way we breathe can change. Do you hold your breath when you move? Do your neck muscles try to help with breathing when you're at rest? Slow, deep "belly" breaths with a relaxed jaw and neck has been shown to be helpful in controlling pain and stress"

Steve Connolly, PT, OCS, encourages patients to pay attention to their breath as part of a comprehensive approach to pain relief. Practicing slow, deep "belly" breaths—with a relaxed jaw and neck—has been shown to help regulate the nervous system, reduce pain signals, and ease overall stress.

If you're managing chronic pain or recovering from injury, integrating breathing awareness into your therapy can be a small but powerful tool on your path to healing.

Shoulder pain can be frustrating—whether it shows up when reaching overhead, lifting, or simply trying to sleep. Often, the source is deeper than just the joint. Tight muscles and trigger points can restrict movement and send pain into the arm, neck, or upper back.

At Steve Kravitz Physical Therapy, dry needling is one of the techniques we use to address these muscular restrictions. By inserting a thin, sterile needle into the affected tissue, we help release trigger points, improve blood flow, and reduce pain and tension—all without medication.

This technique is particularly effective for patients dealing with overuse, postural strain, or lingering tightness that doesn’t respond to stretching alone.

If shoulder pain is holding you back, schedule an appointment today and find out if dry needling is the right fit for your recovery.

Upper back pain can stem from hours at a desk, repetitive movements, or muscular imbalances that build tension in the fascia—the connective tissue surrounding muscles. When this fascia tightens or becomes restricted, it can limit mobility and create chronic discomfort.

At Steve Kravitz Physical Therapy, we use myofascial release to target these restrictions through gentle, sustained pressure and hands-on techniques. This approach helps restore mobility, reduce pain, and improve posture—especially in the upper back, where fascial tension often leads to stiffness between the shoulder blades and along the spine.

If your back pain is interfering with daily life or holding you back from activities you enjoy, myofascial release may be part of a comprehensive plan to help you move and feel better

Lower back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek physical therapy—and at Steve Kravitz Physical Therapy, we offer targeted, evidence-based treatments to help you find lasting relief. One of the techniques we often use for back pain is Dry Needling.

Dry Needling works by targeting tight or irritated muscle tissue—also known as trigger points—to reduce tension, improve mobility, and relieve pain. For patients dealing with lower back discomfort, it can be especially effective in calming overactive muscles and restoring more balanced movement patterns.

This technique is performed by certified physical therapists and is often part of a comprehensive plan that may include manual therapy, strengthening exercises, and posture training.

If back pain is interfering with your daily life, Dry Needling could be a valuable part of your recovery. Book now to experience a difference!

Neck pain can come from many sources—poor posture, stress, overuse, or previous injuries—and it often affects more than just your neck. At Steve Kravitz Physical Therapy, one of the techniques we use to address this type of discomfort is Myofascial Release.

Myofascial Release is a hands-on therapy that targets restrictions in the fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds muscles and supports movement. When the fascia becomes tight or inflamed, it can contribute to pain and limit mobility—especially in the neck and upper back. By gently releasing these restrictions, our therapists help reduce tension, improve circulation, and restore more natural movement patterns.

If you're experiencing stiffness, discomfort, or limited range of motion in your neck, Myofascial Release may be an important part of your treatment plan. Book now and let us help you move more freely and feel better every day.

“Improving mobility in the thoracic spine is often a critical component in the treatment of certain neck and shoulder injuries. To achieve optimal outcomes, we must evaluate the body as a whole.”

As Dr. Troy Young explains, limitations in thoracic spine mobility—your mid-back—can play a major role in how injuries develop and how well they heal. Addressing stiffness or restricted movement in this region can help improve mechanics, reduce strain, and support more lasting recovery.

When there's limited mobility in the thoracic spine, the body often compensates by overusing nearby regions like the neck or shoulders. Over time, this can lead to pain, poor movement patterns, or even recurring injury. By assessing how different areas of the body interact and influence one another, we’re able to treat the root cause—not just the symptoms.

At our practice, we focus on restoring balance and movement throughout the body to support more complete and sustainable healing.
