It's time to schedule your skin check! If it's been a few years since you've been to the dermatologist, or maybe you've never been, it's time to think about scheduling your mole check!

Skin checks are a great way to take control of your health. It's an easy appointment and our providers can check your skin for any spots that are concerning for skin cancer. Because 1 in 4 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime, and because skin cancer is easily treatable in its earliest stages, all adults should get a skin check at least once. Your dermatologist can determine how frequently you need to be seen after your initial appointment (not everyone needs to be seen annually).

Dry winter skin -- it's super common. Thankfully, the solution is simple. If you are suffering with dry, itchy skin this winter follow these tips to restore your skin barrier.

1. Avoid soaking baths in the winter -- hot water dissolves your skin's natural oils, leaving your skin dry, flaky, and itchy

2. Reduce the length of your bath or shower

3. Avoid prolonged exposure to hot water -- reduce the temperature of your shower, if possible

4. Lock in moisture by applying a moisturizing cream to damp skin immediately after your shower

5. Our favorite body moisturizer brands are Vanicream, Eucerin, Cetaphil, and CeraVe

6. Re-apply moisturizer frequently, if needed!

Allergies in Nashville -- let's just say, springtime is rough! If you have seasonal allergies that hit hard in spring and fall, you may want to consider getting your testing done in the winter *before* allergy season hits.

For allergy testing results to be accurate, you need to be off all your antihistamines for a week prior to your testing. That's hard to manage if you are in the middle of allergy season.

Winter is a great time to get ahead of the difficult spring season. We can complete your testing and determine your allergy management plan BEFORE those allergies hit.

Microneedling with PRP is a patient favorite!

A common concern when a patient is exploring cosmetic procedures is the desire for a natural approach. While dermal fillers are excellent at replacing volume loss in the skin, some of our patients prefer to explore options that do not involve injectables.

Microneedling uses your body's own growth factors and wound healing response to build collagen. This results in plumper, smoother skin with minimal downtime and natural results!

Winter is the perfect season for microneedling, since you need to avoid direct sun exposure for 24-48h after your procedure.

As a reminder -- skincare is seasonal! If you started out the New Year with skincare resolutions, but now you are finding your skin is irritated or dry (especially after that cold week last week . . .) -- we can help!

1. Consider decreasing the strength or frequency of your retinoid application

2. Make sure your nightly moisturizer has hyaluronic acid!

3. Check your cleansers and make sure you are not using products with strong fragrances, harsh detergents, etc.

4. A high quality custom facial can help get you back on the right track with intense hydration!
