Absolutely horrifying. A new study done on breast milk samples collected during 2018 found that breastfed infants living near GMO crops in during peak spraying in an area in Brazil were being exposed to significant levels of glyphosate in the breast milk. The levels were similar in both urban and rural areas, which means that exposure via environmental contamination was likely an important factor. The study authors highlight the importance of the continuous identification of these compounds in the breast milk as extremely important so that public health measures can be taken to reduce this contamination. Back in the U.S., no such study and no monitoring are being conducted, putting our newborns at risk for whatever nasty health problems will come from potentially significant levels of glyphosate ingestion in the first 6 months of their lives. There are no words.
