Our Story

New Horizons Life Skills was founded in 1971 by Wanda Burkett and a group of concerned family members as a charitable, non-profit organization that provides employment, supported living, and social opportunities to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in 10 Middle Tennessee counties.

Since our founding over 40 years ago, New Horizons has built upon its deep roots in the provider community and evolved with the many changes and developments in service delivery in order to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities.
