Big shoutout to and for being recognized in Best of Nashville 2025!

We’re thrilled that The Big Book will be featured at The Belcourt Theatre from Friday, October 3rd through Monday, October 12th in celebration of Banned Books Week.

The Friends have also had the joy of performing during Kindling Arts Festival Week for the past four years — an experience that continues to inspire and showcase our incredible community of artists.

We’re so grateful to both and for their continued support and for giving the Friends a platform to share their amazing talents! ❤️

What an unforgettable night! 🤠 This past Saturday, we raised over $370,000 in support of the Friends, all while enjoying The Band’s final performance and the first ever FLC fashion show. A huge thank you to our amazing chairs, Cindy and Ella Shafer, for leading the night with heart and style!

We are so grateful for each and every one of you who showed up, donated, and helped make the 2025 Backyard BBQ and Bluegrass Bash such a huge success. Together we are making a difference in the Nashville community to ensure everyone has a place to belong!

They’re a dynamic duo, event-planning powerhouses, and the driving force behind this year’s Backyard BBQ & Bluegrass Bash— chairs Cindy and Ella Shafer can’t wait to celebrate on September 27th!

As Ella’s graduation from Vanderbilt Next Steps approached and the season of empty nesting neared, both Cindy and Ella found themselves asking, “What’s next?” For Ella, returning to FLC—where she had participated before college—felt like a natural next step. And when the opportunity arose for them to co-chair this year’s Bash, Cindy knew it was the perfect next chapter for them both.

From day one, they jumped in wholeheartedly, rallying their friends and family to support the event. Thanks to their enthusiasm and leadership, we’ll be welcoming over 12 new table hosts this year—that’s more than 120 people stepping onto FLC’s campus for the very first time!

With their vision and dedication, this year’s BBQ will feature exciting new experiences. From our first-ever emcee and a performance by the beloved , to a high-energy set from The Band (FLC’s cover band) and a fashion show led by Friend Caroline Walker and styled by , the evening is packed with unforgettable moments. Every element is designed to highlight the talents and presence of our Friends—on stage, in every room, and at the heart of it all.

Our Service Learning class with has been nothing short of sweet! We’re thrilled to share that the Friend’s work was recently featured in !

“SweetAbility has also formed a partnership with Friends Life Community, where folks with developmental disabilities get hands-on experience working at select baking stations that Chelle creates. She knows how hard it is for families, when their disabled children become adults.”
