San Lazaro Coffee

San Lazaro Coffee www.sanlazarocoffee.com It is certainly helping, but the fact of the matter is, it is not yet enough.

Did you know?

-Many coffee farmers are forced to sell their crops to middlemen at less than the cost of production, forcing them into debt and a cycle of poverty.

-Fair Trade coffee alone may not be an adequate solution.

-From our experience and many others, the fair trade wage is simply not enough to put children through school, to provide enough food for families, or to provide farmers with a reasonable quality of life. The San Lazaro Commitment:
-To pay employees 25% more than local fair wages and provide specialty medical care.

-To treat our employees with dignity, respect, and love through personal relationships to ensure that each individual is given the opportunity to thrive, not merely survive.

-To use 100% of our profits to support the Mission Lazarus Refuge children’s home.

-To use organic methods to produce our coffee

-To cut out the middle-man and act as a single sourced-coffee to guarantee fair wages for our employees.

-To bring you a cup of coffee that has consistently scored as a “specialty coffee.”

Did you know? Our farm uses regenerative practices to restore the soil, conserve the forest, protect water, and empower women and families.

Here are a few examples:
🌿 We use on-farm organic fertilizers made from compost, coffee pulp, and biochar.

🌿 Our practice is minimal tillage with natural grasses between rows to conserve both the soil and water.

🌿 The farm's nitrogen-fixing shade trees enrich the soil naturally.

When you drink our coffee, you are helping contribute to all of these practices which are healthy for our land and its inhabitants. Thank you!

At San Lazaro we have the blessing of being able to purchase coffee from small producers on our mountainside like Anselmo Rivera. On our team's last visit, we met his adorable grandson!

Throughout his life, Anselmo has faced many difficulties, but he has always maintained a hardworking attitude. Even with a lack of opportunities and low-paying jobs, he always dreamed of owning something of his own. With the little coffee he harvested, he saved money and built his house, providing a decent roof for his family.

With hands weathered by work, this producer has dedicated his life to improving his coffee plantation. Despite adversity, we know him for his good humor and his love for his coffee plants. By selling his harvest, he and his family have been able to improve their quality of life, meet their needs, and continue growing their farm.

When you drink our coffee, you help us provide fair on-time payment for small coffee producers like Anselmo. Thank you!

"Every time I brew my morning coffee, I see Carmen’s face. I hear the laughter echoing on that mountainside. And I feel grateful—not just for the coffee, but for the women whose strength and dignity make it possible."

This excerpt from a recent blog post reminds us that every purchase we make directly impacts real people's lives. You can make the choice if that effect is good or bad. Read more about why San Lazaro is a worthy choice: http://bit.ly/3VnB33y
