-Many coffee farmers are forced to sell their crops to middlemen at less than the cost of production, forcing them into debt and a cycle of poverty.

-Fair Trade coffee alone may not be an adequate solution.

-From our experience and many others, the fair trade wage is simply not enough to put children through school, to provide enough food for families, or to provide farmers with a reasonable quality of life. The San Lazaro Commitment:
-To pay employees 25% more than local fair wages and provide specialty medical care.

-To treat our employees with dignity, respect, and love through personal relationships to ensure that each individual is given the opportunity to thrive, not merely survive.

-To use 100% of our profits to support the Mission Lazarus Refuge children’s home.

-To use organic methods to produce our coffee

-To cut out the middle-man and act as a single sourced-coffee to guarantee fair wages for our employees.

-To bring you a cup of coffee that has consistently scored as a “specialty coffee.”

As we reflect on last year and think about what lies ahead in this fresh new year, we feel both gratitude and hope. 💫

2025 was a year of both challenges and celebrations. We started the year mourning the passing of our dear team member, Karla. As the year progressed, we worked hard, learned to communicate together as a team, enjoyed quality time with the Lord in our daily devotionals, and welcomed people from all over the world on our mountainside!

Sonia's beautiful smile shines brightly as she works at the coffee farm. When Sonia arrived seven years ago, she was in a difficult economic situation and desperately in need of a job that paid well so she could support her family.

Fast forward to today ⏩ Sonia's children are all able to attend school on scholarship at Lazarus Academy. And through her dedicated work and fair wages, Sonia has been able to purchase school uniforms, feed and clothe her children, and meet other household needs.
