Have you heard of PECS? Not the muscles in your chest, but the Picture Exchange Communication System!

💬It’s a really great tool used for communication when someone has minimal or no verbal language skills. They are able to communicate to others through pictures to express their wants and needs while also building language skills, like sentence structure.

✅Above are the six phases that systematically build skills so the individual can learn to initiate interactions and communicate.

⭐️THERAPIST SPOTLIGHT⭐️

Lindsey is our shining star for May! Lindsey’s passion and dedication as a Speech-Language Pathologist truly make a difference every single day. Whether she’s celebrating small wins or pushing through tough challenges, Lindsey always brings patience, kindness, and a whole lot of love to her work. She’s not just helping kids communicate—she’s helping them believe in themselves. We’re so lucky to have her!

Statement from Lindsey:
My favorite part of being a speech-language pathologist is helping my students reach their greatest potential. I enjoy getting to know my students for who they are and to be part of their journey, in which they make small strides towards larger goals.

The reason I do this job is illuminated by these examples:
-Helping a joyful kindergarten student find success in being able to clearly say the /s/ sound so that she could say her brother’s name, “Sam.”
-Assisting a middle school student create more descriptive sentences to express himself during group discussions, which in turn boosted his confidence.
-Guiding an 11th grade student to develop upper-level inferencing skills to analyze job descriptions, which improved his self-assurance.

These scenarios are just a glimpse of what makes being a speech-language pathologist so rewarding. In conclusion, as I continue to help others grow, I always live by the words of Ray Kroc, “The more I help others to succeed, the more I succeed.”
