Through our collaboration with Eastern Carolina Fire Training, we have delivered the Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) program to Martin Community Colleges Fire Academy over the past week, providing students with comprehensive training through a range of scenarios in preparation for an event we hope they will never experience.

This week, we have been conducting an EVD course at Garner Fire Rescue. Over the past three days, students from Clayton, Youngsville, Garner, Louisburg, and Durham Highway have attended. Today, we concluded the course with a driving practical skills assessment at Wake Tech East.

Today we traveled to the Davie Volunteer Fire Department to finish off a non-certification class on Rural Water Supply. The week began with a classroom discussion on different situations involved in rural water supply. To kick off today, we started by setting up a single dump tank and began going over drafting operations with their brush truck. After this, we transitioned into our big scenario of drafting. We placed three drop tanks on the ground with an engine company approximately 300 feet away, and we began our operation. We maintained roughly 1000 gpm throughout the scenario. While going through the scenario, we also added many outside-the-box things to help our operation, including multiple low-level strainers to aid in moving more water between tanks.

Jeff Brown was one of our Driver Operator students and a friend. He completed his Driver Operator Pump and Aerial Certification Classes. He was a great guy and friend. Our prayers are with his blood family and his Fire Department families. Rest in Peace my friend.

Jeff had left the Career Fire Service however still volunteered with Davie Fire. I just spoke to Jeff last week and he was giving me an update on his new career with Adult Corrections. He was telling me about his plans to try to move into the training division in the future.

Please keep Firefighter Jeff Brown's Family and His Davie Family in your Thoughts and Prayers with His Sudden Passing. He has also been a Former Roanoke Rapids and Rheasville Firefighter.
