This Women’s History Month, Ascension Saint Thomas honors the legacy of Sister Juliana Beuerlein, a visionary leader who helped shape healthcare across Middle Tennessee. 💓

As CEO of Saint Thomas Hospital from 1980 to 1989, Sister Juliana was often the only woman leading a major hospital in Tennessee. At a time when few women held executive roles in healthcare, she broke barriers while leading with humility, collaboration, and a deep commitment to serving others.

Her leadership advanced innovation and expanded access to care across the region. She helped launch the nation’s largest pharmacy network for the poor, established a leading medical education center, and co-led the partnership that brought Middle Tennessee Medical Center into what is now Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital.

In 2025, Sister Juliana was inducted into the Tennessee Health Care Hall of Fame. This Women’s History Month, we celebrate Sister Juliana’s lasting impact and the generations of leaders she inspired.

We were honored to welcome Ascension President and CEO Eduardo Conrado to Ascension Saint Thomas yesterday. 💙

His visit was a meaningful opportunity to spend time with our ministry leaders, physicians, and associates and share how our teams are meeting the growing healthcare needs of our community.

From visiting the newly modernized Saint Thomas Hospital West Emergency Department to connecting with our primary care partners, Eduardo saw firsthand the dedication of the teams who bring our Mission to life every day. He also spent time in our operating rooms observing surgery alongside our surgeons and specialized care teams and joined our physician leaders for a discussion about the future of our nationally recognized advanced clinical programs.

Thank you, Eduardo, for spending time with our teams and supporting the work happening across Ascension Saint Thomas.
