CRAWLING IS SO IMPORTANT

Crawling is crucial for SO many skills we need in life (not just as babies). I have seen so many kids who skipped crawling and almost always they struggle with some or all of the things in this video.

I’m very passionate about this but I don’t say this to scare you. If your child did skip crawling a they’re 4 years old now, I’m not saying to knock them over and make them crawl everywhere. There are so many fun ways to incorporate crawling to help them develop these skills later. Video on that coming soon!

If you child is frequently wetting the bed after age 5-6, they MAY have a retained spinal galant reflex. Here’s a quick way you can test for it at home and if needed you can always seek help from a licensed occupational therapist near you.

The Beery VMI is a standardized assessment I use often as a pediatric OT!

It assesses:
👀 visual perception
✏️ motor coordination
✋🏼 visual- motor integration

from preschoolers to grandparents and is such a helpful tool for me as a therapist to identify specific support needs.

Bedwetting past age 5-6? This is so tough, often embarrassing for older kids, and a question I get asked a lottttt.

I need you to know that it’s not their fault. They aren’t doing it on purpose. In fact, they truly cannot help it. If you feel like you’ve tried everything and bed wetting is still a frequent occurrence, there’s a good chance your child has a retained spinal galant reflex.

De-influencing you as a pediatric OT.

I get it, there are SO many cute, fun, and AWESOME toys. I buy tonnnnnnssss of them. And I love them and don’t feel guilty about it and neither should you if it makes you and your family happy. BUT you ALSO shouldn’t feel guilty if the newest thing isn’t in the budget or the playroom doesn’t have an empty cubby, or you’re just plain exhausted from all the things.

Homemade toys are fun, cheap, usually easy, and can be just as great developmentally.
