She earned her certification in substance abuse counseling in 1988 from the Tennessee Department of Mental Health. She is currently a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor and Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist. She received a Master of Arts at ETSU having completed their graduate program in Storytelling. Beth has counseled adults and adolescents for over 20 years while developing inpatient and ou
tpatient centers and Halfway House facilities for men and women. In 1995, she entered private practice while consulting with Davidson County Community Corrections. Beth continues to counsel with individuals and families addressing many issues surrounding life's journey. "I've been fortunate to listen to many different voices, age groups and mindsets. The journey of life with varied relationships, obstacles and opportunities... each piece has it's value. We each have a story to tell, a story that longs to be listened to. Through story I hope to offer a way to “dis-integrate” some of the fears that can hold us hostage in the stories we long to be free of. We can find ourselves “re- signing” to a story we have been born into… but not necessarily created for. Re-signing our lives to certain patterns, substances and attitudes can be the result of views and perceptions that serve to limit, stagnate and paralyze us. The eyes of resignation look backward, cultivating postures of “victim and martyr”. Acceptance has a different intention. Acceptance asks us to embrace and take hold of our history, to make use of it with the vision of what we can become. I want to use “Story” as a looking-glass, a way to see what has been hidden from our view. We may only have a glimpse of what is needed to make us whole.
