🧠 Sit with it.

It’s one of the hardest — and most powerful — teachings in OCD treatment. Instead of running from discomfort, we learn to face it head-on. The anxiety, the doubt, the urge to "fix" — we don’t respond. We sit. And over time, it loses its grip.

⭐ Say hello to Casey! ⭐

Casey is a licensed therapist who works with children, teens, and families. Originally from NY, she graduated from Brown University with a degree in Psychology and completed her Master of Social Work at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Casey is passionate about helping children and families navigate the complexities of anxiety, OCD, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, behavioral and mood disorders, and trauma.

At NCFWC, Casey works hard to foster an environment of genuine compassion, empathy, and trust. She does so through her work in individual therapy, co-leading the Friendship Social Skills Groups for ages 6-8 and 8-11, PCIT therapy, SPACE therapy, and family sessions.

We are so lucky to have her with us at NCFWC!

Intrusive thoughts are not a reflection of a person's character or desires. They are often a natural part of the human mind and do not mean that a person will act on them. 🧠

When intrusive thoughts interfere with daily functioning, relationships, or work, it's time to seek professional support.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and other therapeutic approaches can help individuals develop coping strategies for intrusive thoughts.

Don't waste anymore energy trying to manage alone - let's put some tools in your toolbox.

Mental health advocates are heroes — individuals who do not wear capes, but who work tirelessly every day to share their stories and help those who are struggling. They take risks and show their vulnerability by telling their truth in hopes of encouraging someone else.

If you're not ready to share your personal struggles but still want to advocate for things that matter to you there are plenty of other things you can do:

💫 Support someone who needs help
💫 Volunteer for a local mental health organization
💫 Attend an awareness walk or other event benefitting the mental health movement
💫 Encourage your local politicians to prioritize mental health
💫 Correct those who use stigmatizing language

Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed in May in the United States since 1949!

Although much progress has been made on raising awareness and working to remove the stigmas that surround mental health, there is still much to be done.

This month we're going to be talking a lot about the vital role mental health plays in our overall health and well-being 🍃
