In the fast paced society that we all currently live in, we often find ourselves distracted from the things that truly matter to us most. The things we do are oftentimes for the sole purpose of subsistence and survival. We have to learn to help ourselves first in order to better help others, such as our family, our friends, and our fellow human beings. In order to seize the day, we must tap into ourselves and pull forth the energy that is necessary to bring our intentions to life. To create a boundless source of energy, our body's infrastructure must be nurtured and strengthened to prepare ourselves for the life ahead of us. Let us feed our minds with wisdom from those that precede us. Let us feed our bodies with the best that this world has to offer.

Have you ever asked yourself, what makes you happy?

If you have a hard time answering that question, list four things that make you unhappy.

Generally the opposite of those four things are the things that will make you happy!

"I feel weak and unhappy when I do not exercise."

"I feel bloated and sleepy when I eat unhealthy."

The opposite would be, "I feel energetic and awake when I eat well!"

So go CHEK Yourself out!

We often forget that our bodies are merely a borrowed vessel that allows us to experience the quandaries of life. Life on this planet is an education for the soul, our spirit. Our spirit endures life obstacles, pleasure, pain, and most importantly…love. Love of the self and others. With these experiences our soul matures for the next phase in our lives. Therefore it is important to not neglect our spirit and allow ourselves the opportunity to nurture it through meditation, self-reflection, and manifestation.

Smoothies vs. Juicing...

Ever thought about giving either a shot, but don't know where to start?

The benefits of smoothies and juices are that it gives the body a much needed dose of nutrition, bypassing much of the enzymatic digestion and bacterial fermentation that is needed for the nutrients to be absorbed in your intestines.

Smoothies tend to be a bit more filling because they retain all the pulp that comes with the fruits and vegetables. Pulp serves as the insoluble fiber portion of the drink, but hinders the absorption of nutrients, which may get stuck in the pulp itself.

Whereas the juices come with just the nutrients without the fiber and pulp. For that very reason though, juices are essentially an instant shot of nutrition for the body, which can be absorbed within 15 minutes, as opposed to hours compared to eating fruits and vegetables.

Take your pick! Either or will be an amazing addition to your revamped lifestyle!

Apple Cider Vinegar...a jack-of-all-trades supplement...

Alcoholic fermentation of crushed apples occur via the addition of yeast and bacteria to the mixture. Then a different strain of bacteria is then mixed into the mix to convert it from an alcoholic nature to an acetic nature, which is the vinegar that we are familiar with.

"A natural, inexpensive, anti-fungal, antibacterial, antiviral, metabolism-firing, immunity-building miracle worker."

Give yourself a teaspoon or two before every meal to help rev your metabolism.

Give apple cider vinegar a try! Who knows, it just might be the catalyst to turn your lifestyle around!

Hate Those Annoying Stickers on Produce?...

Try peeling them off when after you have washed them!

Before you peel them off, have a gander at its number!

Each have special identifying properties in terms of how it was grown.

There are 4 digit codes and 5 digit codes.

Organic Produce - 5 digit code starting with the number 9

GMO Produce - 5 digit code starting with the number 8

Conventionally Grown - 4 digit code starting with a 3 or 4

If you are jump starting a healthy diet, increasing your overall intake of fruits and vegetables are paramount in leading a healthy lifestyle, regardless of whether the produce is organic or conventionally grown. Either of those will be a dramatically better option than a lifestyle of poor eating habits.

So jump on the bandwagon and be a stickler for those PLU codes!

The Connection Between Food & Sleep

Have you felt like you haven't been getting a good night's sleep? There is a strong correlation between your quality of sleep and the types of food you ingest before you hit the sack.

Believe it or not, your body can actually wake up without becoming conscious and aware of it. There are several stages of sleep...

Awake, Stage I, Stage II, Stage III, Stage IV, and Stage REM. Stage III/IV are restorative phases of sleep, whilst REM is necessary for physiological function.

Stage I is a light phase of sleep, whereas Stage II is an important transition to stage III. Stage II is a time where your body resists any stimulus that could potentially awaken you.

What if the stimulus is too much? The individual will awaken, either fully or partially. Oftentimes, there will be no memory of such awakening.

Potential Stimuli -

~ Fatty foods can incur esophageal reflux and indigestion

~ Eating full meals right before sleep in conjunction with lying down
will potentially aggravate the esophagus in the form of reflux.

~ Excessive fluids before sleep can potentially force the body awake.

~ Alcohol will interrupt REM sleep

~ Caffeine will impair sleep onset.

Sleep aids include lavender aromatherapy, herbal teas such as chamomile, and complete removal of electronics prior to sleep.
