Era Fran “Fran” Christie (née Ball), age 73, passed away on December 26, 2025, in Jackson, Mississippi. She was born on May 17, 1952, in Natchez, Mississippi, and lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her community, and her many passions.

Fran attended Natchez-Adams High School and went on to build a diverse and meaningful career. She worked as a banker and loan officer at Ascension Credit Union in Gonzales, Louisiana until she and her husband, Roy, moved to Natchez to open Christie’s Chevron. After her husband Roy died, Fran worked with abused and neglected children at the Sunshine Shelter in Natchez. She continued her commitment to the community by becoming a deputy with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department, where she proudly served until her retirement in 2021.

Fran was a longtime member of Community Chapel Church in Natchez, Mississippi. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she found joy in worship and fellowship with her church family. Fran was also a cancer survivor and proudly volunteered with the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life, offering hope and support to others. She also served as a volunteer firefighter for The Adams County Fire Service.

Outside of work, Fran embraced life with enthusiasm. An avid outdoorswoman and adventurer at heart, she loved fishing and riding motorcycles. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, and listening to music, and had recently learned to play the piano. Fran always had a passion for animals, adopting many strays, and raising and training Boston Terriers and other small dogs throughout her life. Above all else, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her many grandchildren.

She is lovingly remembered by her sons: George Christie and his wife, Kate, and their children, Zoe and Miles of Birmingham, Alabama; and Chad Christie and his partner, Danielle Saxon, and their children, Austen, Kai, Caden, Kara, Cole, Camilla, and Kaylani, all of Prairieville, Louisiana. She is also survived by a special niece, Charlene Ball Ford of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; one brother, Richard Spencer Lee Ball Jr. of Ponchatoula, Louisiana; and many other beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Fran was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Spencer Lee Ball and Julia Mae Liddell Ball; her husband, Roy Henry Christie, her brother, William “Butch” Ball Sr.; her sister, Eunice Angeline Ball Whittington Drane; and her cherished granddaughter, Coraline Julia Christie.

A graveside service will be held on January 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 106 Morgantown Road. It will be officiated by her dear friend and minister, Bo Swilley, of Community Chapel Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society.

Honorary Pallbearers: The family wishes to honor the following individuals for their love and support: Dennis Engel of Lincoln, Nebraska; Chuck Davis of Little Rock, Arkansas; Delayne Bush of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Robin LaForge of West Monroe, Louisiana.

Era Fran “Fran” Christie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. May her memory bring comfort and peace to those whose lives she touched.

A new year often invites reflection, intention, and planning for the future. While it may not be an easy topic to think about, pre-planning final arrangements is one of the most meaningful and loving gifts you can give to the people you care about.

Pre-planning isn’t about focusing on the end of life—it’s about protecting those you love from difficult decisions during an already emotional time. When arrangements are made ahead of time, families are spared the stress of guessing wishes, managing unexpected expenses, and making rushed choices while grieving.

It also gives you the opportunity to make thoughtful, personal decisions. From selecting a final resting place to choosing details that reflect your life, values, and story, pre-planning ensures your wishes are honored exactly as you intend.

For many families, pre-planning provides peace of mind. Knowing things are taken care of allows loved ones to focus on what truly matters when the time comes—remembering, honoring, and healing.

As we step into a new year, consider taking this important step forward. It’s not about fear or urgency—it’s about love, clarity, and care for the people who will one day carry your legacy.

If you’d like to learn more about pre-planning or have questions, we’re here to walk alongside you every step of the way.

The holiday season can be especially heavy for those who are grieving. While the world feels louder and brighter, grief often feels quieter and lonelier. If someone you love is carrying loss this season, here are four meaningful ways you can show up for them:

1. Be present without trying to fix it.
You don’t need the perfect words. Often, the greatest gift you can give is your presence. Sit with them. Listen. Allow silence. Grief isn’t something to be solved—it’s something to be carried, and no one should have to carry it alone.

2. Say their loved one’s name.
Acknowledging the person who is missing matters more than you may realize. Share a memory. Speak their name. Let your grieving friend know that their loved one is remembered and that their life still matters.

3. Offer specific, practical help.
Instead of saying “let me know if you need anything,” try offering something concrete: dropping off a meal, watching the kids, running an errand, or checking in on a difficult day. Small acts of kindness can feel like lifelines when grief feels overwhelming.

4. Be patient and remember grief doesn’t have a timeline.
Grief doesn’t end when the holidays do. It doesn’t follow a schedule, and it doesn’t look the same for everyone. Continue checking in, even after the decorations come down. Your consistency reminds them they’re not forgotten.

This season, compassion matters more than perfection. If you know someone who is grieving, your kindness—no matter how simple—can make all the difference. 💙

Mrs. Rymer was born on March 10, 1940 in Wilkinson County, MS the daughter of Jake Floyd and Mary Sturdivant Floyd. She was a member of Briarwood Church of Christ.

She was accused by her family as always being in a hurry. While her father was on his way to get the doctor in Woodville, she decided to enter this world being “birthed” by her grandmother.

Having been reared in the country and loving the outdoors, she spent much of her early childhood outside playing with her baby sister LaVonne.

After graduation from Crosby High School, she was employed at the Natchez Democrat until her marriage James Rymer, her husband of 67 years. He was in the military service and during this time they met many friends, some of whom they remained in contact with through the years.

Gloria loved vacationing in the Smokies with her family and parents. She later traveled with her sisters and cousins.

She was truly a Southern homemaker and will long be loved and remembered by family and friends for the delicious meals she so lovingly prepared for them during the holidays and Sundays. Her kitchen was always open.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dewayne; granddaughter Victoria Rymer; a brother, Jake Floyd, Jr. and two sisters, LaVonne Floyd and Nelma Hazlip.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Leland Rymer (Pam), and Lionel Rymer (Dawn); her grandchildren, Jamie Rymer (Claire), Sara Ernst (Joseph), Cristin Britt (Casey) Ethan Rymer (Ashton), Stratton Rymer (Dylan) Wyatt Rymer; five great grandsons, four great granddaughters; and one sister Joyce Papillon of Houston; and a number of nieces and nephews and close friends.
