This is what it’s all about: Helping people to access effective and efficient communication, no matter the modality. The ability to connect with others via effective communication is a foundational human right, even for our littlest friends.
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) helps people of all ages who are non-verbal and even those who are verbal but still need some support. There is a variety of options to choose from ranging from no tech to high tech. It’s also important to know that, despite common concerns, AAC does not hinder or stop speech/language development. AAC actually supports it while promoting successful social interactions, independence, access to literacy and curricula, as well as reducing frustration and undesired behaviors.
